I had a very positive experience taking Pang for 14CL, especially after hearing horror stories about Henary. The three hour labs 2 times a week honestly sounded overwhelming, however, its not as bad as some weeks it's just one lab that requires possible 4 hours total. Other weeks we didn't even have to meet for the other section or it would only last 1 hour if you were efficient.
The pre and post lab reports were a decent amount of work but the midterm and final were very reasonable if you studied all the content.
Additionally if you have a good lab TA like I did (king Brandon Jolly), then you should have close to 100% in you lab category. I ended up only needing to get around a 66% on my final to get an A because the requirement for an A is 90%.
Professor Pang teaches very clearly, and is one of the last few good chem professors left as the UCLA chem department falls to shambles.

I just want to emphasize how incredibly accommodating Dr. Pang was during all of the crazy events that happened during Spring 2020. He and his TAs modified Chem 14CL and developed amazing online materials to make it an appropriate online class. This class was definitely not hard but I feel like I learned a lot, which I'm happy about!

Incredibly accommodating professor who genuinely cares about student success. The most time consuming things were the post and pre labs, but labs were all pre-recorded and posted (about 2-15 min).

Pang is the best. I really enjoyed this class, mainly because the professor is so caring and helpful to the students. He had office hours everyday which helped immensely and was always willing to answer whatever question no matter how stupid. Chem14Cl is notoriously a hard class but taking it with this professor made it one of my favorite classes since I felt like the work I put in directly correlated to how I did in the class and the professor and TAs I interacted with were all kind and helpful. I appreciated how he always came to check on how the labs were going during lab periods too. Also the study guides are very helpful and I really appreciate the detail put into them. If only every professor was like you Pang, I'm gonna miss you <3 Also thanks for the candy on halloween and during office hours :)

Dr. Pang was one of the clearest and most helpful professors I've ever had, especially in the Chem 14 series. Although the workload and number of hours is quite heavy per week, if you do the pre-lab assignments on time (before lab) and read through the procedure thoroughly, you should be able to finish each lab period at least an hour early. Pang provides plenty of review material before each midterm and the final with a very thorough review study guide and plenty of practice problems on lab assignments. Use the Free & For Sale page to purchase a lab manual, lab coat, and goggles! Also he gave out glowsticks after his last lecture to some of his classes

Extremely good professor. Lectures are very clear and Dr. Pang communicates very effectively in his office hours with students. There was no extra credit offered in the course, but the midterm was very reflective of the problem sets offered in class (if you did all the Psets you would be totally fine).

With the padding from the lab reports and the midterm, you shouldn't be too worried going into the final. The final has a large spec portion, but honestly if you thoroughly practice enough you should be adequately prepared to the point where your final grade shouldn't change.

Dr. Pang is an amazing professor and I would definitely take this class again - I feel very lucky to have taken this class with him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I think Dr. Pang might be one of the best chemistry professors in the department to be honest. You can tell that he truly wants us all to pass and does his best to help us. He would have office hours almost everyday and would come to our lab sections to assist us. He’s an engaging lecturer and I enjoyed the material. He provided several opportunities for extra credit through the midterm and writing assignment. The midterm was fair, and although the final was a bit challenging, I think it was fair as well.

I would recommend understanding the lab techniques early on and do not save them until the last minute, as he made the final 30% of our grade!

Pang is one of the best, kindest and most understanding STEM professors at UCLA. He's such a nice man, makes the class really nice as well. The class itself wasn't bad at all especially since it was all online.
