Throughout the course, Jada seemed to be a nice professor. We engaged in meaningful discussions in class and I appreciated how it went beyond the scope of just English to teach us about world problems. At the beginning of the quarter, we signed a grading contract that essentially said, if you complete all the assignments, you get a B. But if you do 3 other optional assignments, you get an A. This seemed fair to me. Jada pretended to be considerate and thoughtful about students' individual situations when awarding grades, saying things like your grade should be reflective of your learning, not tests. All the aforementioned reasons are why I liked this class so much.
However, once classes were over, she showed a complete disregard and empathy for her students. She stopped responding to emails, claiming she went on an "early vacation" and then sent out a super passive aggressive email the day after grades were due to the registrar. In this email she basically said I don't care what the situation is, I will not be changing your grades or responding to the queries you have about any wrongly marked assignments, papers, etc. Additionally, she claimed attendance could be a potential issue for people's under-marked grades. However, I attended and participated in every class so I know that couldn't be an issue. She should be more transparent about the attendance points she's awarding. She was also super unclear about the submission of the 3 additional assignments, telling different people different due dates, causing a lot of confusion and putting our grades at risk.
Overall, it's safe to say Jada is one of the least empathetic professors I've encountered at UCLA, unlike what she claims to be. She only taught one class this quarter with maybe 45 students, yet she was unable to answer emails on time, address queries, or award the right grade at the end of the quarter. I understand the need for work-life boundaries, but she wouldn't even respond during work hours. If she, as a professor, expects a 100% from the students, then she needs to return the same energy and stop slacking. Her excuse that the grading contract stated everything (which it didn't) is infuriating. You, as a professor, cannot hide behind a six page google document to avoid addressing your mistakes.
Do not recommend at all.

I loved my class with Professor Patchigondla. She was super helpful and always very nice and understanding when it came to unprecedented situations as it sometimes happens. The assignments were fairly easy and her grading contract was the best. She understood that everyone was on a different level coming into her class and that we should all be graded on our own efforts. If you didn't try in the class it would reflect on your grade.

If I could take her class again, I would because she was super nice. Her feedback was great and helped to improve my writing. Taking it my fall quarter was also a great idea. We had no actual quizzes or tests and most of the assigned readings were fairly simple.

I did not attend any office hours, but with her flexibility, you probably could if you let her know before or after class. I really loved her topics and they were definitely engaging.

I honestly loved this class! The overall theme was food which I actually found interesting. The professor was very accommodating and made the class relatable. Most assignments consisted of paragraphs on canvas, essays about food, and reading short articles. It wasn't too much work but check canvas for assignments! I missed a couple of assignments because I wouldn't check the site. On the first day of class, the professor also let students choose the way they wanted to be graded. Overall, I think Professor Patchigondla was very sweet and understanding; she even brought us snacks on the last day of class! I would take this course again :)

I highly recommend taking her class for English Comp 2! She was a very sweet professor and her overall class topic was based on food! Most of the homework involved small readings and having discussions on them through canvas. The readings were easy to read and understand. As for the essays, she would offer 1 on 1 support to help. I do recommend not to miss a day of class because it can affect your grade since some classwork involves group work. Overall, great professor and everyone else enjoyed her class!

Professor Patchigondla seems like a very nice person. Her lectures are kind of long and can be a bit boring but it is English comp so that makes sense. She is definitely nice when it comes to missing one or two things. But there are a lot of assignments throughout the week ti keep up with. A lot of essays as well but she gives a lot of time to work on them.

I would have to say this was my favorite class winter quarter. Although for the first few weeks there were a lot of readings from the textbook, it's very manageable as long as you don't procrastinate. She's super helpful with major assignments and is willing to always read over your essays to provide you feedback. No tests but there were 3 major assignment essays. The set grade for the class is a B if you do everything but there is an extra assignment if you want an A (which is writing a letter to the makers of the textbook or creating a slideshow and presenting it to the class). Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend going to lectures since there is group work and more detailed instructions when it comes to assignments that are vaguer on canvas. The class is about food and food culture so I would assume most people would like this topic. The textbook isn't super expensive but you can go on libgen.li and search the ISBN number to download the book. There are discussions with the reading but its all straightforward. She's super sweet and I did not see her as passive-aggressive unless you deserved it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

She was a great professor, always had room for improvement, there were only like 3 major essays and it usually reflected on food topics and the way we perceive the fast food industry or anything related to food. Her grading system is also great, because its mostly work ethic based so you will receive a B if you do the required topic and stay with the outline. However to receive an A you have to do an additional video or send a letter to a food inc corporation, other than that you're stuck with the a B. I do reccomend taking this class though !
