Please read! I want to be honest so you know what to expect.

I took this class as an accelerated 6-week summer course, and despite earning 100% on both assignments and participation and turning in everything on time, I still did not pass. Exams make up 75% of the grade, and the rest is divided between assignments and participation. The grading structure is such that if you don’t perform well on the exams, it’s nearly impossible to pass, no matter how well you do in the other areas.

The class consisted of 3 timed quizzes, 2 assignments, a timed midterm, and a final exam. Math has never been easy for me, but I put in everything I had: daily studying, attending TA office hours regularly, and even quitting my summer job to focus on the class. Despite all that effort, I struggled to keep up. One of the biggest challenges was that after watching the lectures, there were no practice problems to help test your understanding—you were immediately tested at the end of the week. There were times when I thought I understood the material, only to take the quiz and realize I hadn’t grasped it as well as I thought. If you don’t do well on the quiz, it’s just too bad. The quizzes were only 30 minutes, and although we had two attempts, you couldn’t see which answers were wrong, making it very hard to learn from mistakes.

I met with Professor Wang in office hours to express my concern. I asked if she had any review questions we could work on together, but she told me I needed to come up with my own questions for her to help me with. While I understand the reasoning behind this, it was difficult for me to even know where to start, as I wasn’t always sure what I was confused about. When I brought up my struggles and questions, she implied that the material I was confused about had already been covered in the recorded lectures. But what if I just didn’t understand the lecture? It felt like there was no compassion for my situation, and I was left with the sense that I would fail if I didn’t do well on the exams. Additionally, she was slow in answering emails, which made it hard to get the support I needed in a timely manner.

Many of my classmates were struggling with the course too. We would text almost every day, sharing how difficult it was and offering support to one another.

If you experience test anxiety or struggle with timed exams, I strongly recommend avoiding this course with this instructor. Even with a high GPA and a strong academic record, this was one of the hardest classes I’ve taken, and the grade I received was not reflective of the effort I put in. Bottom line: Exams decide everything (75% of the grade). If you’re not a strong test-taker, seriously consider a different professor or session.

By far the worse course I have taken at ucla. If you do not have previous knowledge of Statistics from high school, do yourself a favor a take another professor. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS with professor wang. Please keep in mind that the covid reviews are not accurate, certain accommodations were given to student due to the circumstances. I took this class online async, it was a bad experience. You have weekly quizzes that test you on the material, the questions are weirdly worded to throw you off. You are given 2 attempts, however you are not able to see what questions you got wrong after the 1st attempt. 75% of your grade depends on you performance on weekly quizzes, midterm and final exam. She will not curve, so what ever grade you get is your final grade. The exams are multiple choice, but there are questions where you have to input your answer ( a simple mistake in a calculation or a mistake in inputting your numbers could cost you the point on a question). Professor Wang does not give enough practice problems to apply your knowledge and practice before exams. You only have 70 minutes to complete both the final and midterm, one single cheat sheet is allowed but the wording of the questions makes you struggle and waste time trying to understand what is being asked and what you should apply (70 minutes is simply not enough). Trust me when i tell you to look for another professor!!!

I am not a math person, so hearing that I had to take Stats 10 was very intimidating. I chose Professor Wang because she has amazing Bruin Walk reviews, and I ended up taking the class online and asynchronous with the hopes that it would be easier than taking it in person. The course had 3 timed quizzes, 2 assignments, and a timed midterm, and a final. Honestly, if your math skills are not strong, you WILL find this class difficult. I did terribly on the midterm but made a comeback on the final, which was the only reason I passed. I do not think she is a bad professor. You just really need to take your time with the material and make sure you understand it. Most of the questions in the class are concept based, and very few required me to actually do heavy math. If you are comfortable with math, you will likely be fine taking the class online and asynchronous. If you know you struggle with math concepts, like me I definitely recommend taking it in person so you can get more direct support from the professor and TAs. Keep in mind that the in person version of this class will include more required work.To be honest, I did not enjoy this class at all. I felt stressed most of the time because of the type of language used in lectures. I really encourage anyone who takes a Stats 10 class to do the most to build a good understanding, study at least once a day, and do practice problems to make sure you are actually grasping the material. This is especially important if you do not already feel comfortable with math. I also heavily recommend making connections with other students in the class so you have people to study and learn with.Coding is also part of the class, but the TAs are spectacular at showing and explaining how to do it, so that should not be too much of a worry. Overall, if you decide to take this class, lock in and stay focused, because it is a lot harder if you're not confident about math. Don't be fooled by the easy A reviews!

I took it asynchronous, and that was a great decision. Lectures videos were pretty short. One assignment every 1-2 weeks with a coding component in R. The TA provides you the answers. You had to attend discussion to get participation points but could also get these points through the Campuswire. Quizzes weekly that were proctored. One midterm, and one final that wasn't cumulative. Very easy class since I took AP Statistics in high school and covered even less content. Make sure to print your own Z-table for the final.

I have read many of the reviews of this class, and many of them, I feel, are too harsh on the class and Professor Wang. While I may not have wanted to end this class with a B-, I believe that it is the fair grade I deserved. I found the class workload to be very manageable, as we only had quizzes and two assignments, making it easy to stay on top of the work. The assignments were R code with help from the TAs, so there's nothing bad to say there. One thing that I agree with from other reviews is the test-heavy nature of this class, the majority of the grade is made up of weekly quizzes, the midterm, and the final. I will admit, the tests are not that easy, but with enough studying, review of concepts, and a good written cheat sheet (one allowed per test) you can pass the tests and pass the class with at least a B-. The professor provides EC for attending the section and her review sessions, something which helped me end with a B- instead of a C+. If you truly struggle with test-taking, this class may not be for you, but for those who need to complete a Stats 10 requirement, I found this class to be manageable and worth it.

Professor Bingling Wang is a very nice professor, but I feel like she jammed a lot of information towards the end of the quarter after the midterm. The first midterm was pretty easy because you covered topics like mean, median, mode, etc., but the final was way harder than the midterm. I would also take into consideration that she doesn't use the final schedule, but rather her final was on week 10. This caused a lot of confusion towards students, and for me it just gave me less time to study especially when she was still teaching and going over content on week 10. I think the weekly quizzes were okay, but just note that you only get two chances on each quiz. As for lecture and section, it requires attendance codes for participation points. The annoying thing about discussion is that you kind of have to attend if you want the codes for homework, so I highly recommend you go to all of them or make friends with people in section. Overall I think the professor is nice and tries to help you understand the topic, but just note that she won't go too in depth on some of the topic, so you do need to make sure you yourself understand it. As someone who have never taken any stats class, I will not lie it was quite difficult for me towards the end.

I took AP stats in high school and absolutely hated that class. I took this class with Professor Wang about a year after taking it in high school and this time around it felt like a breath of fresh air. Her lectures are very engaging and straightforward. She records her lectures, but attendance is mandatory for participation points. I loved this class, so it didn't even feel like a burden to go to. Halfway through the lecture, she gave us a break, and around this time, we did the attendance quiz. I thought the assignments were not complicated, but they do require the use of R Studio. I had never used R before, but it was not hard after the first discussion section. The TAs are constantly helping everyone and are really kind. I got Qingyang Wang as my TA and she was so kind and helpful. Unfortunately, the exams are not rounded, so they bring your grade down if you don't do particularly well, but the assignments and quizzes help balance your grade. She also offers extra credit at the end of the quarter. I would definetely recommend this class with Professor Wang.
This was the grading scheme:
- Quizzes - 20% (2 attempts for each quiz due at the end of every week)
- Assignments -- 25% (5 assignments that are essentially completed over the span of two weeks during the section with help from the TAs)
- Midterm Exam -- 25%
- Final Exam -- 25%
- Participation -- 5% (attendance quizzes from lecture and section)

I took this class online asynchronous and that is the best way to take it. I had a friend who took it in person at the same time and it seemed a lot harder for her than it was for me. You needed 15 participation points (you get 1 per section you attend or 2 for attending the professor's zoom reviews) to get 100% for that (which was 5% of your grade). Quizzes on lockdown browser worth 20% of your grade (had two attempts and a one page cheat sheet for each). Plus, the lowest quiz score is dropped. The midterm was 25% of your grade and was about 25 questions. The final was not cumulative (only weeks 6-10) and also worth 25% of your grade and was also 25 questions. You got a double sided cheat sheet on the midterm and final (typed or written). The last 25% was assignments, and the TAs basically said all the answers to these assignments but they are graded on correctness (it was about 5 coding questions and 5 math questions) and the lowest score is dropped. There is no coding on the midterm or final. The lectures were like an hour of videos a week. Overall, it was a fairly easy stats class and pretty easy to get a good grade if you put in a little effort.
