Please take this course with Prof Wang! I took this course Fall 2021 when it was offered online-recorded, and she was an extremely kind and accommodating professor. She would push assignments back whenever we needed to, built in review sessions into our lecture time, and added an extra 1% of extra credit on top of the 2% mentioned in the syllabus (1% for completing a survey of the course, 1% turned into 2% for Campuswire). I had Yijia as a TA and she was very clear when explaining the labs, and since she recorded them I was able to start them the day they were due without issue. The exams were a bit tough due to time constraints but the quizzes made up for them, and one of each of the following category is dropped: Quizzes, Labs, and Homework Assignments. All in all, I would suggest this as both a GE and to take this course with Prof Wang as a pre-req.

This was the easiest math class I have ever taken! I had no statistics experience, but the professor is clear and understandable. She makes the material straightforward and easy to digest. The workload is minimal, with only a few homework assignments and participation activities. The most difficult part of her class are the labs, but the TAs guide you through most of the problems, so it's a breeze! She is an amazing professor!

She doesn't have a tolereance for people who don't undertstand the material. You basically can not ask questionsin the class because she is rude about it. She is also strict on class time and makes sure not to waste a sec. She also doesn't give enough examples so you'll struggle on the homework. The slides just consist of terms and not really problems. I took Stats 123 and got an A in it but this class just made me confused about STATS. The exams are open note, but they didn't help because I already didn't understand the material.

Being the class that cost me my 4.0 GPA, I had to write something. I thought it would be easy especially given I took AP Stat, but Professor Wang wasn't very helpful especially when I had to make an emergency last minute trip to the Middle East during finals week that forced me to have to take the final in the early hours of the morning to fall within the exam window. You can scroll to the other reviews for more detailed info on the format but there's virtually no margin for error given 75% of the class is from 3 quizzes and 2 exams (of which, 2 of the quizzes and the midterm I scored a high A on) but yet I botched the final (C+) which ngl was really confusingly worded for a lot of questions still shot my grade down to an A-. No curve, no nothing else to save you. Kinda frustrating ngl but it is what it is. Don't take this class C sesh for sure

For me this was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken, though I did take AP stats in high school. This class was mostly just review, but even if you hadn't I think you'd get by just fine. There is 5 homework assignments and 5 labs which alternate each week but the TAs go through them problem by problem in discussions so you're essentially given the answers. There are also weekly quizzes which are all open note/open book, and a midterm/final, all of which are very manageable. It may be different going in person, as I had it online but really I'd recommend this class to anyone looking for an easy A.

I took this course summer 2025 as an online asynchronous class and thought it was really manageable. I was taking another class at the same time and was able to get an A in both so the workload really isnt that heavy its just the time to watch the lectures. The class consisted of 3 quizzes, 2 assignments, and a timed midterm and final. The assignments were super easy because the TA just gave you the answers to most of it and the rest was relatively easy as long as you watched the pre-recorded lectures. The class is really not that math heavy, as long as you have the formulas written down its honestly just a matter of inputting the right thing. As long as you able to identify what numbers correspond to every variable youll get the right answer.
The other reviews are true about having little to no practice problem sets but the quizzes are manageable as long as you watch the lectures and prepare a good cheat sheet (cheat sheet allowed for every test). All test were timed but the question count was manageable for the allotted time (quizzes had about 15 and the midterm/final had around 25). The quizzes were also hosted on a lockdown browser with a calculator implemented into it. The questions were really wordy so it can be hard to understand what its even asking for if you dont have a good grasp on the concepts but the practice midterm/final (not very useful) did give somewhat of an idea of what type of questions were going to be asked. The professor also hosted long review sessions before the midterm and the final to help students prepare but she lowk kinda ignored some of the questions in the chat so I would suggest asking your TA since they also held their own reviews before each test.
Also theres a really active chatroom created via campuswire and there were a lot of people helping each other out through there. Also there was 2% extra credit given if you earn 15 participation points. Those points could be earned by attending discussion sections (1 point each), the 2 review lectures hosted by the professor (1.5 points each), or being active in the campuswire (Had its own point system for answering/asking questions). There was no official curve but the TA and professor mentioned that if the average test grade was low enough they would curve. My grade final grade was curved up from an A- to an A and so was my friends so thats dope.

Overall I think this is a fine class to take with this professor as long as you are prepared to actually pay attention to the pre-recorded lectures and use the resources given (discussion sections and campuswire chatroom).

Please read! I want to be honest so you know what to expect.

I took this class as an accelerated 6-week summer course, and despite earning 100% on both assignments and participation and turning in everything on time, I still did not pass. Exams make up 75% of the grade, and the rest is divided between assignments and participation. The grading structure is such that if you don’t perform well on the exams, it’s nearly impossible to pass, no matter how well you do in the other areas.

The class consisted of 3 timed quizzes, 2 assignments, a timed midterm, and a final exam. Math has never been easy for me, but I put in everything I had: daily studying, attending TA office hours regularly, and even quitting my summer job to focus on the class. Despite all that effort, I struggled to keep up. One of the biggest challenges was that after watching the lectures, there were no practice problems to help test your understanding—you were immediately tested at the end of the week. There were times when I thought I understood the material, only to take the quiz and realize I hadn’t grasped it as well as I thought. If you don’t do well on the quiz, it’s just too bad. The quizzes were only 30 minutes, and although we had two attempts, you couldn’t see which answers were wrong, making it very hard to learn from mistakes.

I met with Professor Wang in office hours to express my concern. I asked if she had any review questions we could work on together, but she told me I needed to come up with my own questions for her to help me with. While I understand the reasoning behind this, it was difficult for me to even know where to start, as I wasn’t always sure what I was confused about. When I brought up my struggles and questions, she implied that the material I was confused about had already been covered in the recorded lectures. But what if I just didn’t understand the lecture? It felt like there was no compassion for my situation, and I was left with the sense that I would fail if I didn’t do well on the exams. Additionally, she was slow in answering emails, which made it hard to get the support I needed in a timely manner.

Many of my classmates were struggling with the course too. We would text almost every day, sharing how difficult it was and offering support to one another.

If you experience test anxiety or struggle with timed exams, I strongly recommend avoiding this course with this instructor. Even with a high GPA and a strong academic record, this was one of the hardest classes I’ve taken, and the grade I received was not reflective of the effort I put in. Bottom line: Exams decide everything (75% of the grade). If you’re not a strong test-taker, seriously consider a different professor or session.

By far the worse course I have taken at ucla. If you do not have previous knowledge of Statistics from high school, do yourself a favor a take another professor. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS with professor wang. Please keep in mind that the covid reviews are not accurate, certain accommodations were given to student due to the circumstances. I took this class online async, it was a bad experience. You have weekly quizzes that test you on the material, the questions are weirdly worded to throw you off. You are given 2 attempts, however you are not able to see what questions you got wrong after the 1st attempt. 75% of your grade depends on you performance on weekly quizzes, midterm and final exam. She will not curve, so what ever grade you get is your final grade. The exams are multiple choice, but there are questions where you have to input your answer ( a simple mistake in a calculation or a mistake in inputting your numbers could cost you the point on a question). Professor Wang does not give enough practice problems to apply your knowledge and practice before exams. You only have 70 minutes to complete both the final and midterm, one single cheat sheet is allowed but the wording of the questions makes you struggle and waste time trying to understand what is being asked and what you should apply (70 minutes is simply not enough). Trust me when i tell you to look for another professor!!!

I am not a math person, so hearing that I had to take Stats 10 was very intimidating. I chose Professor Wang because she has amazing Bruin Walk reviews, and I ended up taking the class online and asynchronous with the hopes that it would be easier than taking it in person. The course had 3 timed quizzes, 2 assignments, and a timed midterm, and a final. Honestly, if your math skills are not strong, you WILL find this class difficult. I did terribly on the midterm but made a comeback on the final, which was the only reason I passed. I do not think she is a bad professor. You just really need to take your time with the material and make sure you understand it. Most of the questions in the class are concept based, and very few required me to actually do heavy math. If you are comfortable with math, you will likely be fine taking the class online and asynchronous. If you know you struggle with math concepts, like me I definitely recommend taking it in person so you can get more direct support from the professor and TAs. Keep in mind that the in person version of this class will include more required work.To be honest, I did not enjoy this class at all. I felt stressed most of the time because of the type of language used in lectures. I really encourage anyone who takes a Stats 10 class to do the most to build a good understanding, study at least once a day, and do practice problems to make sure you are actually grasping the material. This is especially important if you do not already feel comfortable with math. I also heavily recommend making connections with other students in the class so you have people to study and learn with.Coding is also part of the class, but the TAs are spectacular at showing and explaining how to do it, so that should not be too much of a worry. Overall, if you decide to take this class, lock in and stay focused, because it is a lot harder if you're not confident about math. Don't be fooled by the easy A reviews!

I took it asynchronous, and that was a great decision. Lectures videos were pretty short. One assignment every 1-2 weeks with a coding component in R. The TA provides you the answers. You had to attend discussion to get participation points but could also get these points through the Campuswire. Quizzes weekly that were proctored. One midterm, and one final that wasn't cumulative. Very easy class since I took AP Statistics in high school and covered even less content. Make sure to print your own Z-table for the final.
