I highly highly highly recommend this class as an easy A GE. All the lectures are recorded and the slides are posted online. Your TA provides a new intervention you have to preform each week, such as exercising, practicing gratitude, etc., and you fill out a google survey each day describing your mood on intervention and non-intervention days. Each week you have to write a short and easy paper about the intervention with a prompt provided. There is one midterm and a final that are open note and online. The questions are based on the information in the lectures and the provided readings. The textbook is Professor Korb's book and it felt pretty unnecessary to have. Grades are 20% participation (attending TA sections), 20% weekly logs, 20% daily logs, 20% midterm, 20% final. I did the lowest amount of work possible for this class and still ended with an A, although I do wish I paid more attention because this class is really meant to help benefit you personally. I usually just took notes on the slides at home instead of going to lecture because lectures always felt so long and slow. If you're looking for an easy science GE definitely take this class!
I really liked this class. The midterm and final were both online, open-note, so in my opinion they were very easy as long as you take good notes during lecture. I didn't mind the weekly interventions, although they did get tiring after a while. The reports were super easy, although you should make sure to clarify with your TA what they are expecting. The professor asks for everyone to buy his book, but you don't really need to because thankfully he goes over everything in lecture.
I would recommend anybody to take this course. The material is extremely useful to your everyday life and very engaging. Professor Korb is great and you can tell he is genuinely passionate about the content. The work load is pretty light but I still felt like I learned a lot because I was interested in the content.
This class was amazing and I would recommend anybody to take it. The material is engaging and beneficial to your life, and Professor Korb is great. The work load is very manageable but I still felt that I learned a lot from this course and look forward to implementing the knowledge into my daily life.
As a hard stem major, this class was a cakewalk where you don't really have to study or anything and just get an A (tests are open-book, open-note). Assignments are annoying but can finish in maybe 15-30 minutes. He really stresses that you shouldn't be taking this class for a grade and should be using it to better yourself and everything and kind of actively shames you into dropping the class if you're not their to truly take away things from the class? idk it felt a bit too serious in that regard which kind of made me enjoy the class less. Although I did take away a few things from the class, the lectures drag on and on. That being said, in an incredibly stressful quarter taking the time to reflect on myself and meditate, use less social media before bed, and other intevnetions genuinely probably did help my mental health quite a bit and I'll definitely try to continue doing them throughout my life. Also Hui, my TA, was amazing and I genuinely enjoyed coming to her sections to kind of reinforce what we were talking about in class! Would take again for the easiness more than the content.
Outstanding professor, absolutely manageable workload. Interesting class and the best option for those looking to fulfill life science GE. I highly recommend reading his book, it's cheap and helpful. His tests are open note and online, I struggled more on the midterm but got an A on the final. If you know the slides you WILL get an A on the final.
Please take this class. It is so interesting, manageable, fun, and helpful. I apply the things I learn in this class to my everyday life. Professor Korb is a gem and I want only good things to happen to him forever.
Very okay class. Everything we learned about felt obvious & straight forward. You can pass the class by Control F-ing your way through the powerpoints on the exams.
He's a terrible lecturer but a nice guy. If there's one thing he'll do, it's belabor a point. I could show up to class 20 minutes late and he'd somehow be on the second slide.
Don't choose Imri's discussion - it's unbearable.
Great life science GE for anyone, a far amount of work considering you have to complete interventions and log them almost every day. Work is easy and lectures are interesting if you really pay attention.
This class is awesome. I have learned so much stuff about the human brain that is actually applicable to my life. The lectures are kind of long and tedious, but not really vital to the tests, I just find them interesting. Discussion attendance matters but they usually end early and are pretty quick paced. Perfect workload, 10/10 class.
