SUCH A HARD CLASS. Doesn't do a great job at explaining things and my class was way off compared to other classes in terms of the material we covered. You can understand the professor but not the TAs, and the tests are super hard. Curved like a normal math class, with bottom 15% getting Cs and below, top 15% in B+ and A range, and everyone else in the middle. Don't take this in the fall because then you're with all the super smart people and you'll be at the bottom of the curve unless you think you are one of those super smart people. UCLA is hard, and this class proves it.

Just sign up for an account to write this review... I don't understand why Austin gets such a bad grade. He is very clear and helpful, and his handwriting is so good. I took this class first quarter in UCLA and totally enjoys it. Our first midterm and final is pretty easy and second midterm is a little bit harder. However, it is not about calculation, but about understanding. If you go to the lecture and read textbook you will be fine.

Reviewing for 31B:

Professor Austin is a great guy, he is very charismatic and always tries to be fair with homework/tests. He likes making one of his two midterms very hard and the other more or less easy. Lectures are bruincasted and he bases lectures on the textbook but he does a good job at making his lecture notes easy to understand. He also does well at clarifying whenever you ask a question about something. Sometimes he goes fast but he is very open to some feedback about that kind of thing and always slows it down. Would recommend him!

I loved the way that Professor Austin structured this class. As long as you put in an earnest effort to work on the problem set and the practice exams, you can easily get an A in the class. It was a great class in the sense that it allowed me the chance to digest the material and actually enjoy the processing of learning instead of constantly stressing over grades. On top of that, Professor Austin lectures very methodically and doesn't go all over the place like some professors do. He's also pretty funny. Overall great professor and great class. I definitely enjoyed the class and am really glad I had the opportunity to take it with Professor Austin.

I was really worried when starting this class, but Professor Austin was amazing! He was very helpful and would always stick around after class for questions. He is very clear with his lectures and even color codes everything! He also posted clear solutions and gave us similar proofs to homework problems or problems done in lecture in our exams. His office hours were also extremely helpful!! I highly recommend this professor!!
