Almo is quite funny and definitely cares about his students, but any structure in this class is nonexistent. As previous reviews have acknowledged, his "notes" are just random files on Bruinlearn that consist of R outputs with little context. Besides this, though, the class isn't actually too difficult since the class is essentially entirely computational. The homeworks are graded pretty leniently and the midterm and final were both calculating various values associated with regression outputs. Definitely make a formula sheet from his notes--it will be invaluable since you can use it on exams. Overall, I didn't really enjoy this class.

This professor very clearly cares about his students. He is super responsive if you email him and always seems willing to help out when you ask him questions inside and outside of the classroom. Homework assignments are pretty reasonable and graded very generously, and most questions on quizzes/assessments are also pretty straightforward; just be sure to keep track of all formulas discussed during class, and you should be fine. The biggest downside to taking this class with this professor is that he is SUPER disorganized. The Bruin Learn site is a jumble of random files, only about half of which are discussed/relevant to whatever is going on in class at any given time. The final project is also a total mess, as he typically assigns groups before people drop the class, so you might end up doing a group project alone (I asked to get reassigned multiple times, and he never got around to doing it). The final project is also due a few days after the final exam/end of the quarter, so you may find yourself working on it during your break.

Professor Almohalwas is such a great professor. He is very passionate about his teaching and is very easy to approach if you have any questions or need clarity. He is very clear about what he expects and makes all of his lecture notes available online. He provided formula sheets for the midterm and allowed 1 full page front and back of any notes you wanted for the final. Overall, great class! If you study you'll get the grade you deserve.

This is one of the weirdest classes and professors at UCLA. It is one of the upper division statistics classes with the easiest tests/homeworks and the most manageable workloads. However, it is also one of the stats classes where you will learn the least. Akram repeats the same truisms ("don't kill a mosquito with a missile") and seems on a mission to offend his students rather than actually motivating the material. His lecturing is almost entirely lacking in structure, making it difficult to learn from his or his thousands of pages of randomly scattered notes. If you want to learn, don't take this class. If you want the grade, do.

Very disorganized class which made content way harder than it is supposed to be. Professor is nice and accommodating but his slides made no sense and his explanations were not sufficient and I had to learn everything by myself. Sometimes he would go on tangents about the material that would eventually go off topic. I felt that formulas and concepts were just thrown at me, leaving me not knowing what what to do with them. I wasn't sure what types of questions to study because of the poor structure and few exercises. One tip is do the textbook practice problems as he pulled 90% of the MCQ in the midterm straight from the textbook which he never provided. Labs were very annoying since there were many questions that required you to type sequences of code never taught in lab. Overall, this class was a bad experience but the material itself is okay.

Almohalwas is very disorganized, and his lectures are unclear and unnecessarily confusing. The topics in this class are simple to understand, but his 100+ slides for every class do not provide any clarity. Our final exam was online, and although he said it would take only 3 hours, it took so much longer. The questions in the final were horribly worded and terribly confusing for no reason. He also wouldn't answer questions via email during that time. On the other hand, the midterm was straightforward. The homework is based on R, and he has plot codes in his slides, which are helpful. The workload overall for the class was not bad.

This class is very meh. That's the only way to put it. As someone who is very bad at math, I was surprised by my grade, but it took ALOT of studying for the final. He gives a quiz every week that is fairly easy, and you have two chances to take it also. SO EVERYONE should be averaging at least a 95% in that portion of the class. The labs are pretty difficult to get the hang of, ESPECIALLY if you have an absolutely horrible TA like I had. I don't know why, but I don't think I could or will ever get a worse TA. He did not help whatsoever. But anyways, I kind of ended up getting the hang of the labs; they were just very tedious to do at some points. The midterm for some reason I got a sort of bad grade on, but it was extremely easy; like I said, I'm just bad at math. The final I got a 93% on, but everyone I know got a C or lower, but that was the average. I would say it's the type of class where if you pay attention during lecture, you'll do good, but it's not. He does not know how to explain mathematical concepts or word problems AT ALL. So, if you have to take this class, it's not horrible, but try to get a different professor if you can.

Dr. Almohalwas is one of the best professors I've ever had and this was hands down one of my favorite classes in the major. Super kind and makes things easy to understand. If you have the chance, take this class as an elective.

I am not sure why this professor is getting a bad reputation on Bruinwalk. If you took AP stats in high school this class is extremely easy. Akram is very funny. I found him to be one of the funniest professors I have had at UCLA. He is extremely kind and understanding. I could not make the final exam time, so he made me a personal exam to take during break on zoom. He drops your lowest lab, quiz, and weekly assignment grade at the end of the quarter. The only thing hard about this class was the labs. I needed my friends to show me how to navigate R studio but you have ample time to complete assignments. I have never seen Bruinwalk be so wrong about a professor. Akram is easily a 4.5+. His only flaw is his communication. He is very bad at responding to emails so if you have a pressing issue talk to him after class or email him endlessly until he sees it. This class is very easy and Akram is a very understanding and accommodating professor. Lectures are generally boring but it is a stats class, what do you expect. You only have to attend around 2/3 of lectures to get full participation credit at the end of the quarter (only 3% of your final grade). Quizzes are super easy and online (10%). The midterm was very easy and the final was pretty easy too. The final is 37% of your final grade so prepare properly. You can teach yourself the material with the slides pretty easily, especially if you have taken any kind of stats class ever. Professor Almohalwas is an awesome guy and I recommend taking his class.

The labs were not bad, and neither was the weekly discussion homework. The teacher is nice and helpful when u ask for help. However, you are not gonna learn anything from lectures, and the tests are way way way harder (specifically the final more than the midterm) than what you learn in class. If you have never taken any stats before, this is not the course for you. Some high school AP stats will help you for all pre-midterm stuff especially if you’re not good at math. To put it in perspective the mean for the Mcq portion of the final was a 60% (no he didn’t curve it). So if you can wait it out and take another teacher I would. If you can’t than whatever just do you’re best. The teacher is understanding if you talk to him in office hours, most likely will not respond to your emails though. Discussion was not mandatory, lecture had iclicker. No textbook needed.
