I absolutely loved this professor. I feel like he would bend over backwards to make sure the class understood the material, and his concern for the class was way more than I expected from a UCLA math professor. His tests are pretty lengthy, but extremely fair. He explains things very well, especially in office hours, and even then he won't hesitate to lecture on something that you didn't understand. Overall really nice guy with an appealing Greek accent. (Also an interesting/fun math class, might I add. Got an A). Take him if you can!!!

Classes Taken: Math 132

All right. I'm a third-year Electrical Engineering student, so I've been at UCLA and I've taken some very difficult/bad professors.

Moschovakis is definitely one of THE BEST professors I have ever taken. He is:

1. Very concerned with student learning. He goes through great pains to change notation and find ways to simplify things for student understanding

2. Reasonable. His tests are really not all that difficult if you take the time and effort to read the book and do practice problems on the side

3. Caring. He often encouraged us to go to office hours and even made himself available outside of student office hours

4. Generous with grades. This guy gave 60% A's!!!! What else could you ask for?

5. TIED FOR NICEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! (besides Willson, who's in the EE department). Moschovakis was a very grandfatherly-type man, and very warm and good-natured. You'll just have to take the class to verify that for yourself. Plus, he's pretty classy too. My friend and I saw him smoking out of his pipe one time when he was eating lunch.

Well, that's all I have to say. Like I said, he's definitely one of the better professors I've taken, and that's coming from a guy who took Abidi (go look him up on Bruinwalk if you haven't heard from him).

I'm honestly not that smart, and I only spent maybe an 45 minutes-hour a day total studying for this class.

Final Exam Score: 195/200 (tied for first best)

Final Grade: A

First of all, there's something wrong with the ratings: the effectiveness should be higher than 6, and the difficulty should be lower than 8. I took 132 with him, he wasn't so hard. No doubt the professor is smart (kind of theoretically smart mathematician; he's really into theories); his lectures are organized and thorough. But there's nothing difficult about the material or the professor's tests. Complex Analysis is a very interesting, fun and easy subject. So I don't think anyone should be intimidated, just because it's "Complex" and it's "Analysis".
One thing I can guarantee that you'd benefit from him as a professor is his willingness to help students. You want to make an appointment, he'll be there. You have question, he'll make sure you understand it. I think only people who are so shy to raise question do badly in the class (or in any Math class). Definitely take him.
