Quarter: Spring 2019
Grade: A+
June 25, 2019

This is my first Chican@ studies class at UCLA and it was my last quarter. I honestly loved Espino. I have an interesting perspective of being the only white man in a class focused almost solely on discrimination against and struggles of a population that I, by birth, do not identify with. I have had classes in other departments (the labor and workplace studies) that make it more about attacking white people that teaching. Espino's course didn't do that in the least but still managed to tackle the same subjects, and more. That made this class that much more enlightening. I learned so much about the culture and have grown to respect it even more than I did prior. Espino is an expert on the subject and brings a unique twist to the course, filtering it largely through the lens of Chicanas. 100/100 should take.

The class consists of three short papers along the way. In addition, you have a research paper that is short and you do assignments along the way that builds to it. Easy class if you do the work. Received an A+ and learned a lot.

Quarter: Winter 2018
Grade: B+
Oct. 29, 2018

Virginia is funny, engaging and helpful. There is no need to buy any textbooks since the readings are online. Midterm and final are easy. However, she sometimes talks fast and moves to the next slide really quickly (if you ask her politely she will go back to the slide).
