I really enjoyed the overall structure of this class with professor Diaz. He is very chill and approachable, which makes the classroom environment comfortable and open for discussion.

The class is largely discussion based. Each week, we are assigned new readings and come to class ready to talk about them with both the professor and peers. It feels more like an ongoing conversation than a traditional lecture heavy course. He incorporates a variety of materials including books, songs, and videos, which keeps the class engaging and dynamic.

Attendance is mandatory, and we were required to submit a weekly reading note, so you do need to stay consistent with the workload. There is also a final project, but it is very open-ended and allows a lot of creative formats. You can shape it in a direction that genuinely interests you, which makes it much more enjoyable compared to rigid final exams or papers.

Overall, the class is engaging and intellectually stimulating. You can tell the professor is deeply involved and passionate about the field, which makes discussions feel meaningful rather than surface level. I would recommend this class to people who enjoy discussion based learning and are willing to actively participate. I would definitely take class with prof Diaz again!
