Professor Bell is really nice, and I feel bad to say that this class is pretty dry. If you are interested in South American geography, take it! If you have no prior interest, the discussions can be very painful. I would recommend another seminar.

I took the Fiat Lux seminar Land and Society in Latin America with Bell. While sometimes the lectures got dry and he is hard to listen to sometimes, I found that if you engaged yourself in the class by actually talking with him about the reading you got a lot more out of it. Plus you could get some pretty interesting tangents out of him. He's had quite a life and knows a LOT about what he teachers so if you go about things the right way you can learn a lot from him.
