DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. In person, Pincetl was very rude to me on several occasions when I was nothing but respectful and polite to her. She requires a TON of readings and then asks VERY specific and tricky questions on the final that you HAVE to reread the text to answer, but doesn't give you enough time to do so. She also pulls some questions word for word from things she said in class; one question/answer on the final was word for word from one of her slides and she marked it WRONG, even when I emailed her the exact slide to prove I have chosen the correct answer based on what she taught us in class. She will not change or adjust a grade, no matter how good of an argument you have or how poorly your work was graded. One of her essay prompts for the final was a single question that could have been answered various ways (no guidelines given, no questions could be asked during the test) but she gave me an F on the final because my response to the question wasn't exactly what she had in mind (if she had one way in particular in her mind that was the only acceptable response, she should have made that more clear in her prompt but instead she left it open to much interpretation and did not grade that way).

Professor Pincetl is a very knowledgeable and respectable professor. This past quarter when i took her for Environment 164 she had two class quizzes a paper and a final examination, no midterm. Everything was open note. She is no-nonsense and her lectures can be painful to sit through (they are three hours once a week) overall take good notes, (I recommend a laptop) and you should do well.

Course Taken: Environmental M164 - Environmental Politics and Governance

Pincetl was a pretty good professor, although the class gets very tiring since it meets for 3 hrs, once a week. People got bored in lecture a lot, but I found her notes very well-organized, structured, and eloquent. She doesn't post much online, only some readings. So, if you want notes, you have to go to class and take them yourself.

The class was composed of: 2 quizzes, 1 paper, and 1 take-home final. The quizzes were easy, if you did the readings. It's open notes, open book during the quizzes. The paper was graded very leniently. We just had to go to an environmental agency hearing and write a reflection on that. The take-home final was way harder than anything she gave, but it was a fair take-home final. It was long compared to the rest of the stuff we did in class, but pretty typical compared to other upper division classes.

I learned quite a bit in class, and it was surprisingly interesting.
