While Dai's exams were "fair" in that he was lazy and just put the homework questions on his test, his lectures were only somewhat helpful. He often joked around and sped through some material to ensure it was covered. This is not to say he was an ineffective teacher: he would often repeat some concepts to make sure they got through to the students. However, he didn't seem as professional as the other professors.

Good class, good professor. His midterms are reasonable, and the final was fair. Although there's lots of homework, one can get through it in no time. And even with an accent, all of his lectures were understandable.

Dai is great. He is a very good teacher and I found his class relatively easy. He assigns homework every week which is due on Friday and he has two midterms and a final. I thought his first midterm was super easy. His second one was trickier. His final, I thought, was pretty okay, but he definitely threw some curve balls in. During his lectures he definitely hints at important problems which he puts in the tests. Some are even the exact same numbers. Overall, go to his lectures (they are helpful), go to section (also helpful) and make sure you understand how to do each type of problem you do in class and in the homework and you'll be fine. I got an A+ and I did all of that. He was basically my favorite teacher so far as well. He's really sweet, understanding and fair. From what I've heard, he is the best Math 3A professor you can get. Good luck!

Very good teacher. Accent is present but you get used to it. If you took high school calc you'll get an A in the class because the class is pretty easy. I don't know what everyone is complaining about. He's really fair and nice. I'd take him again if I could.

If you've taken Calculus in high school, this class with Dai is fairly easy, it requires minimal work and his tests are of the same level of difficulty as his midterms and finals. He does have a strong accent but people make it seem as if there's no way of understanding him when it's not even that bad. Good class, good professor.

Dai is a fairly easy teacher and is sometimes funny. He lets you use a notecard where you can put any formulas or such during exams so that's a major plus. I felt I didn't get enough time to do his midterms because he gave them out during classtime, hence i got a C in both midterm 1 and 2. But the final was straight forward and I aced that and ended up getting an A in the class! I'm taking his class for 3B-- he's not bad!

Final Grade: A-
1. He has a heavy accent but you'll get used to it.
2. He's really helpful in his office hours. He kinda even tells you the right answers for the homework problems.
3. His tests are very reasonable.
if you've taken calculus AB back in high school, you'll have no problem pulling off an A. Good Luck!

Dont take this class if you do not have a solid Calc background. He does not teach and he is hard to understand and learn from. Homework counts and is graded based on accuracy...so go to your TA or check answers with friends because its an easy way to get and lose points. But honestly, the midterm and final are not that hard. When I took the class in Winter '08 there werent many choices of prof (all more or less the same)...so dont worry if you can only get into his class--its all pretty much the same.

For Calc 3A: Hmm, I thought his name was Shouxin but the last names are the same, so here goes. Firstly, Professor Dai has a pretty decent Chinese accent, although I never really had trouble understanding him. He's also are really chill guy who cracks kinda lame jokes that are kinda funny. I've talked to him once outside of class and he's cool. He's also really easy going. He assigns approx. 15-25 HW problems a week and they are due Fri. And he's usually really good at posting the problems by at least Sunday so that you have about a week to do it.
However, I think he makes his lectures kind of convoluted. I had taken AP Calc before I got here, albeit 2 years ago. But when he is first teaching you something, try to ignore it/all the extra stuff, and then pay attention when he starts doing/explaining the problems on the board. Also GO to class the day before a midterm or final. His review is actually really good, because he doesn't go into detail about stuff which is what I think confuses everyone. Ex. I know what chain rule is/I can do it before 3A. I went to his lecture, listened to him on chain rule, was totally confused at the end and was like "What?" but then I just tried to ignore it and paid attention to his problems on the board and then got it. So don't listen to the lecture, just look at the problems.
His class isn't really curved and everyone does really well because it's CalcA, so just put in some effort. P.S. 15% of the class HW, so do it. I stopped coming to class after 3rd week except to turn in HW on Fri. mornings. So go to the first couple lectures and see what works for you. Professor Dai isn't Amazing, but he's not shabby at all.

**Disclaimer**
I'm assuming that this is the same professor as Shouxin Dai, a math teacher at UCLA. If I am wrong, disregard this.

Professor Dai is one of the fairest teachers I've ever had. His lectures cover exactly what is on the midterms and finals, which were pretty straightforward. He really does not try to trick students; instead he tests our ability to use methods and concepts taught in class.

He does have an accent and says some things a little different than what most people are probably used to (like x^3 is "x cubic"). But it's kind of funny and really not an issue. His examples are pretty clear and he ALWAYS takes his time in lectures--never rushed sections, never pinned extra material on us, completely fair in my opinion.

He is also very willing to spend more time on examples or explanations if something is unclear. He really is a nice man and a great professor and I highly recommend taking him if you get the chance. Even if he is the earlier lecturer, it's worth it.
