This class is a fun and thoughtful course while also being a very easy A. Professor Hall is the most understanding and kind professor that I've had at UCLA by FAR, and it was her deemphasis on grades/testing that made this class so enjoyable. Despite the Society and Genetics title, I would say this is an English class through and through, with many readings per week and discussion of readings in class. The content is very Society and Genetics as you talk about food and its societal impact, but I would still consider it an English course. I took the class when there were two quizzes, one recipe analysis paper (where you analyze the significance of an LA-based recipe), and a group project focused on finding and proposing a solution to a problem in UCLA's foodways. Other than that, expect to come to class where attendance is mandatory and participation matters in the class discussions. Would recommend!
