Psych 85 was probably the most fun I've had in a class at UCLA...and I never would have expected that out of a Cognitive Science class. Professor McAuliffe is one of the funniest guys I've met, both in and out of class. I could tell you about his in-class breakdancing and a rock star Review Song performance, but those are things you'll want to see with your own eyes. But let me say that we spent a lot of class time laughing. The material is dense and pretty nuanced, and he does a very good job of making sense of what would otherwise be pretty confusing. He is a professor who is not afraid of students and encouranges them to come by his office. He also takes time to answer everyone's questions in class (sometimes it can really take awhile) and generally showed a lot of concern for student learning. His tests were fun (I thought) and kept me on my feet. That is to say that a big part of his tests is application. He gives you a situation, you tell him what is happening. It's all short answer, and if you study like it is a multiple choice test, it might seem like a curve ball (so study hard). So if you need to take Psych 85, McAuliffe is a great bet. He made fun of what otherwise should have been a very boring class, and that really says a lot.
