I took this class not because I needed it for my major in history but because I enjoyed the subject. Thus, I decided to have it as pass/no pass. I was doing good, I got a 98% on the midterm, even though she expected us to memorize dates and have correct spelling (which I got a point off for). When I turned in my paper late, she went ballistic. This is because she assumes the worse of her students, thinking that I had not worked on the paper at all. When I told her I was taking the class pass/no pass she got angry and assumed the worst again, chastising me in front of the other students by stating that I was trying to do minimum requirements to get at least a C grade. I had to correct her and point out my effort in the class thus far, visiting her office hours, my midterm grade, and the fact that I had emailed her questions regarding the paper over a week prior (which went unanswered). Once I had told her I was taking the class to learn and for fun, thats why I chose pass/no pass, she started policing me in ways I have not experienced since high school! She noticed when I was not in class and also micromanaged my movements via email. Just one example was during the final, I moved to the seat in front of my original, since it was a table. I noticed her circling the class and asking others where “she” went, but at the time I did not know Morris was talking about me, since I was busy doing what I was suppose to be doing, my test! After the final, when I checked my inbox, and saw 2 emails from her asking where I was and that, “me and my exam had disappeared” from Dodd hall. Thus, Morris is not a college level professor, she is more like an elementary school teacher. She doesn't care about student learning and is more concerned with her own expectations of how students should act. She assumes way too often, twists your words, and is condescending and interrogative. If you get on her bad side she will try to treat you like a child. Above all, do not tell her you are taking the class for fun, to focus on learning, or as a pass/no pass. This will hurt her ego, since all her hard work with the red pen will go unacknowledged.

If you've taken Classics 10 and put in your work for the research paper this class is a piece of cake. The midterm and final are both based around memorizing terms from given study guides, and Dr. Morris grades both really leniently (especially if you go to her office hours). The mean for the final was a 97% and she took a day to grade them so I'm not sure if she even really read them completely, or just checked for effort. The research paper mean was also around a 90%. Dr. Morris gives good feedback but a lot of times just doesn't take off points for your mistakes, which is great. You might have to do a bit more work if you aren't familiar with basic information like Greek geography, but overall I can't see anyone doing too poorly in the class.
