Quarter: Summer 2017
Grade: B+
Sept. 19, 2017

Dr Cooper is really nice and super knowledgeable, but his lecture presentations are kinda all over the place. There's so much material and the class is very fast pace. MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. Every little detail will be tested on. Don't pay attention to the reading as much as the slides as there is material on the slides not from the reading and vice versa. Just start memorizing the material early and you should be fine.

Quarter: Winter 2017
Grade: C

This class is extremely difficult. It is based on only two midterms and a final. The lectures are typically pretty boring and packed with information. My only piece of advice is to memorize every piece of information on the slides.

Quarter: Fall 2016

I took this class with Roth-Johnson and Cooper. This was one of the hardest and most stressful classes I've taken at UCLA. I watched all of the pre-recorded lectures and attended every lecture in person. I also read the textbook, actively participated in discussion, and attended office hours. However, I just don't think Dr. Roth-Johnson and Dr. Cooper's teaching methods worked for me. Too many concepts were crammed into one lecture and it was hard to keep up. We were given one practice test for each of the exams, but the answer key was never posted. Instead, we were told to post our questions on the CCLE discussion forum. When we asked a question, the professor and learning assistants would reply with even more questions, not giving a definite answer and leaving me more confused than I was before. The professors also don't allow us to have Peer Learning Facilitators, who would have made the class easier to understand. Instead, the class has its own Learning Assistants, which isn't as effective since they have select office hours which aren't as structured as PLF sessions. I wouldn't recommend this class because it makes the material more difficult than it needs to be, and taking it with Esdin would be a better choice.

Great professor, just the class itself requires a ton of memorization... I thought it was pretty easy other than the amount of work.

I took this class with Dr Cooper and Dr Fain. Fairly speaking this class is HARD. The grade of this class only consists of two midterms and a final. This means you cannot mess up any one of it otherwise you'll pretty much mess up the whole thing. I had a really hard time struggling for this class before the first midterm and yes I messed it up, which made the rest of my quarter really really stressful. Thankfully after the first midterm I started to find my way of studying for this class and made it up a little bit, though not to the grade I initially hoped for.

The key to succeed in this class is memorization. Dr Cooper goes over a lot of material at a very fast pace, and you need to memorize EVERY single detail of EVERY slides. He may test on a slide that he spent only a few seconds on. Just memorize everything. Another tip, KNOW THE WORDS, not just the abbreviations. He has fill-in-the -blanks on his exams and he will ask you to spell out the full words. Perhaps a good thing about him is that he only tests on what's on the slides so his exams are pretty fair.

Overall, just study hard, memorize everything, and good luck :)
