What most students say about Professor Winter is true. HE IS A BOSS.

Professor Winter was a nice enough guy, even if he was totally full of himself, but this class was a disaster. Like people have said, despite what he claims there is definite favoritism for the athletes. Not only do they get their own review sessions, where it is rumored that they get all the answers, there have been times both explicitly and implicitly that extra credit opportunities have been presented only to athletes. The class itself was mostly entertaining, and the midterm was easy. However, the final turned out to be pretty hard. The real pain is that you have no idea what to study for. He gives no study guides and there is no textbook and most classes tend to consist of a string of bullshit with no uniting theme. I still don't know my grade so I can't say if it is an "easy A" but it is definitely a lot easier if you are an athlete. I would avoid this class if you can just because of the unpredictability of the tests and obvious favoritism.

I absolutely loved this class and professor Winter. Winter has a great sense of humor and is clearly passionate about music. Yes, he is a little scatterbrained and the amount of knowledge he spits out in an 1 hr and 50 minutes is at times intimidating, but at the end, it's so worth it. When it comes to the midterm and final, its hard to guess what to expect, but as long as you attend lecture and go over your notes the night before, you should be fine. (It's all multiple choice anyway) Also, Winter offers tons of extra-credit opportunities for students to come up on stage and dance, sing, or act, which are nice grade-boosters. I'd also recommend doing the group project at the end of the quarter for extra-credit. Basically you get to come to class and be entertained - take this class, you won't regret it!

WInter is an inspiring professor and pretty funny guy.
There are so many opportunities to volunteer onstage. Definitely do the student performance extra credit--he's not bs-ing you when he says it'll be one of your greatest experiences at UCLA.And it's a huge grade boost.

Discussions are super laid back.
No textbook...so it is kind of hard to guess what he'll test. But the midterm was a breeze, and the final was not as easy, but still manageable.
You're required to go to 4 performing arts events (3 UCLA live ones at Royce Hall). Write 400 word papers on each and that's it.
You'll probably also have to do a public art project, but it's not hard and really makes you think.

Just take the class; you won't regret it

This was the most boring class ever. The days that I went I wanted to kill myself. The lectures are long and the discussions are boring. If you do go, however, it is an easy A. I managed to pull a B with attending 2 lectures the entire quarter. You have to go see 4 UCLAlive events, which can actually be interesting if you don't mind them, or you can find out what they are about from a friend (they're graded pretty easily). This is probably one of the more easy GE's for the Arts GE requirement but is just boring.

Easy class, easy A. If you don't do well, it's because you didn't work for it at all. There are loads of extra credit opportunities, each of which are grade bumps (from A- to A, B to B+, etc.) There were, all in all, 4 different opportunities to bump up your grade, meaning that you can get even more than one full grade bump.
Take him if you can, even the athletes do it.

Professor Winter is such a nice guy! You will NEVER take any class at UCLA quite like this one. This class is what you make out of it if you are like some of the athletes and don't show to class then this class will suck once it comes down to studying for finals but if you are engaged in the class and sit near the front you will really enjoy taking this class. There are a bunch of extra credit opportunities which range from funny to freaking hilarious like one guy got extra credit for looking at a girl's ass on stage. Bottom line: take this class, it's dope and the professor is an even more awesome guy

he is hands down one of the best professors at UCLA. the class itself is super easy, and entertaining! Except for a few athletes that decide to leave early and disrupt the class, this class is just amazing. TAKE IT if you can, you will not regret it!

SUPER easy GE and also pretty entertaining. Going to lecture is somewhat important because the midterm and final have a lot of questions on what happened in class. Winters kind of designs every class like a performance so its almost always interesting. Bottom line: take this class, its dope.

Among the best professors and classes I've had at UCLA! Arts & Architecture 10 is not only an easy GE, it's both entertaining AND interesting. Professor Winter has a great sense of humor and is an engaging lecturer. He goes out of his way to arrange for midterm and final review sessions and encourages everyone to come to his office hours. If you are interested in the arts or want to get a general dose of theater, music, and fine art basics, TAKE THIS CLASS! Sit up front! You will have a front row seat for live in-class performances with accomplished and passionate artists. If you come to class, pay attention, and sit close to the stage, you will earn an A with ease. Winter also offers countless extra credit opportunities through the course of the class for on-stage volunteering, plus a larger student performance extra credit opportunity in weeks 9 and 10. I worked in a student performance and it was a truly rewarding experience. Definitely the best GE out there. With minimal studying, but perfect attendance there is no reason for anyone to earn less than an A, I earned an A+.
