Professor Kellman is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about his area, but his teaching style is poor. His lectures are very meandering and not focused at all; it was very hard to determine what was the most important information because of this, compounded by density of the readings and the info those included. Definitely come prepared to discuss the topics and engage because that gets you brownie points!!! The T.A. Victoria was excellent in helping us prepare for the midterm and final, but even with her help, the tests were still difficult because Kellman words questions in a tricky manner and there were questions about very specific info that was buried in the reading and not emphasized in lecture at all. Final grades will apparently be curved nicely, I know that a lot of people are counting on this curve. I worked my ass off in this class and if you put in the effort, I'm sure you will get the grade you deserve.

Professor Kellman is funny and kind. He is obviously passionate about his field, and it shows in his class and in the assigned readings. The course material was, in a word, heavy, with lots of content to worry about. Although Professor Kellman did his best, his teaching style of discussion-based lectures with little to no visual aid didn't work very well for me. I relied very heavily on my classmates so that we could work together to make this class work.

This was a manageable class but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. On the one hand, the professor is really smart, the T.A is helpful, and the work is pretty straightforward (the only work you have are the assigned readings and a 1-page reaction paper you have to write in regards to the readings that are graded on completion). However, the concepts can get challenging, the readings are long and dry, the professor doesn't use powerpoints (which makes the lectures hard to follow), and he is also not opposed to putting people on the spot during lecture. The exams are relatively challenging, but the professor does curve the class liberally.

Really enjoyed professor Kellman's lectures! They were completely discussion based and focused on the readings that he assigned every week. For some of the weeks, there was a lot of reading to do and less on other weeks. Kellman was very interesting and had quirky humor.

There were response papers that were super easy and a midterm and final.

Professor Kellman is very intelligent and engaging, but he does make his students think for themselves. It's all discussion based - basically you just read articles and discuss them in class. For this reason, the exams were hard, because there was SO much material and it was hard to pick out the important stuff and know what would be on the test. I personally really enjoyed the class even though it was challenging. A great introduction to cog sci that goes over tons of the important ideas from the entire field.
