this class was a SUPER easy GE, minimal weekly worksheets that you can basically get the answers for from the PowerPoints, no tests, no essays, no finals or midterms, just do your work, go to discussions , and do well on the final project and you will get an A. I found that the source material that we need to review, especially the films the professor chose were very interesting and I liked discussing them in class. GET TA LEANDRO, he is an AMAZING TA and I wish I had him for a longer time, he was so helpful and genuinely wanted you to succeed in his class. he was so dedicated to the course material and really knew his stuff. he also is so welcoming and accommodating and really funny lol. this class was a breeze and I would 100% take it again if I had the chance. the only bad side is that the narrated powerpoint made by the professor were reallllyyyy long, like 4+ hours long sometimes so you had to pick and choose what to listen to. other than that, a great class

This class is great to take if you are looking for an easy GE or to fulfill a requirement. There is no homework, and your only grades are a post on the weekly discussion board (150-300 words), the midterm, and the final. There are extra credit opportunities throughout the quarter that make it very easy to get a good grade. The past reviews here state comments about the "worksheets." That no longer applies. Professor Arroyo no longer gives worksheets, and gives a midterm instead. The lectures can get very boring and tiring, which makes it hard to pay attention, especially at night. However, you need to know the material for the midterm. Personally, I did not pay attention in lectures at all and crammed the material 3 days before the midterm and was able to cover 100% of the content in a little over three hours. Professor Arroyo is very passionate about the material and therefore spends very long periods of time on certain concepts. Therefore, a downside of not attending lecture is that you'll have the slideshow, but you won't know what topics she got to and what she didn't by the time of the midterm. I recommend only skipping lecture if you have a friend to tell you what she covered, because it's often only 1/3-1/2 of the slideshow she posted. Professor Arroyo is an extremely caring and compassionate person. She is kind and will remember your name even if you only speak once. She also gives extra credit for lecture attendance via iClicker, and discussion sections are mandatory. Although it's often difficult to stay focused, Professor Arroyo's slow pace makes it easy to catch up when you need to. The final is a project so you can kind of tune out after the midterm. Overall, if you are looking for an easy class, this is the one to take. However, Professor Arroyo is very kind and knowledgeable and I would recommend taking advantage of her resources. There are readings, but they're honestly not necessary to do until the midterm as long as you know a brief summary. For the midterm, you should know the rough date of the reading, author, place of origin, and summary + importance. I got away without doing any readings and only having summaries which makes the class very manageable.

This class does require a bit of outside research for the material on class, however, I would recommend this course to everyone.

Professor Arroyo was clear with the way she shared and explained her slideshows, but I wish she included worksheets or social activities to help you test your understanding. This lecture consists of 2 classes and 1 discussion every week, you listen to lectures/take notes, show up for attendance, do weekly discussions, and are expected to do readings on your own. It's a good class if you learn by teaching yourself half of the subjects but terrible if you prefer to have guidance and clarification. We do have TA's that lead the discussions but it doesn't compare to group activities or physical paperwork that allows you to get answers to your questions.

This was my first class at UCLA as a Spanish major, and I loved it! Easy in the sense that there are no exams, and the final project is quite flexible, so you can do what you are passionate about. My TA was especially helpful with the worksheet assignments. I would take this class again!
