Quarter: Spring 2020

Noah White is the man. I'm not sure if he's going to be coming back to UCLA after this quarter, but he was always available and is very helpful when it comes to doing the homework. With the class being online, it was significantly easier which may make this review a little less reliable. Homeworks were a little tricky, but always doable. Quizzes were almost every week, and I found these to be the most annoying part of the class as they sometimes had specific or obscure answers. Midterms and finals were less difficult than the homework, and with 24 hours to take them they were all very manageable. If he ever is teaching a math class at UCLA again, absolutely take him if you can.

Fantastic professor! Always go for White whenever you can for any classes you want. However, I think his class is a bit too easy but it's probably because of the online nature of this quarter (so probably no curves if you messed up). Midterms and finals are generally easier than homework and the homework is around medium-easy difficulty. He's super responsive to emails and super helpful during office hours. Quizzes are kind of tricky especially with time components so you should have a decent intuition of the week's material before you take the quizzes. CAVEAT: It may be easier for me particularly because I had already taken 131A, which is particularly hard for me but provided me with a good foundation for proofs for 115A.

Amazing Professor, especially for an online setting. He made himself available any time we needed him. Homeworks were hard and engaging but he gave hints when asked. Quizzes were usually easy but had 1 or 2 tricky questions that could throw you off. Tests were really fair, 24 hr tests. Took me about 2-3 hours to do most questions and maybe another 3-4 to perfect 1 or 2 of the proof questions. He changed his grading scheme just for this quarter because it was online and I personally really liked it. You can find his scheme on his website. Overall amazing Professor, would not hesitate to take ANY other math class with him, especially a proof-heavy one

White is amazing! He's super clear, posts detailed notes for every lecture, posts several practice exams for both midterms and the final (with answer keys) and the exams are actually quite similar to the practice ones! Homework is light--there's a couple problems due every other week. For weeks when homework is not due, there's a quiz in discussion (it's usually not hard) and he drops the four lowest homework and quiz scores. To do well in this class I'd recommend doing all the homework (even the ones you don't need to turn in) and taking at least 1 practice exam. Also, make sure you really understand the material--makes exams a lot easier!
