Professor Lin is the best! This class isn’t challenging, especially since using AI is highly encouraged, but it’s very time intensive and takes a lot of energy. The class is scheduled for 4 hours, twice a week, but many times we would get out of class after only an hour or so. However, the days where we were conducting experiments occasionally used the whole time. The three TAs are available to support you, but Professor Lin is also super helpful and flexible. He delivers lectures about each lab and adapts them as necessary. He’s very understanding, will offer extensions if needed, and does everything in his power to help you get an A and learn practical skills on experiments and technical reports. The process of making lab reports is extremely tedious. You can let AI write the entire report, but I found it’s most helpful processing data, writing MATLAB for your graphs, and preparing tables/graphics in LaTex. You work on your lab in a group of 5, but your reports are written and graded individually. There were four labs, and each group had to deliver a presentation about one of them. Setting aside the occasional days with a one hour lecture, the six unit estimate is accurate. However, as long as you do the work you should get a good grade. If Lin is available, definitely take it with him. I’ve heard horror stories about this class, and they were somewhat true, but Lin made it bearable.
