The professor and TA's are all super nice! Still haven't gotten my grade back though and it is the first day of winter quarter classes. I think he really just cares that you are trying and putting effort into your work. The professor and TA's are all nice and helpful when you have questions and problems and can walk you through it. He would even go over homework problems due that day during lecture, but don't just rely on him to do it for you because you should really try it yourself first. For the optional final, he ended up having to cancel so don't know much on that but said you can do extra problems to show more effort and increase your chances of getting a higher A. There are plenty of resources that he provides and gives a lot of past exam problems with answers too. He also did the lectures on zoom and recorded them, but I would really recommend going to class bc it can be hard to see the board on zoom and hear.

Extremely easy, light workload, great class, easy to understand. I cannot recommend this class enough; the professor is extremely knowledgable and kind. The concepts are easy to understand if you pay attention during lecture. It is an easy class to get a good grade in while also understanding more about the world.

You are guaranteed an A- if you do all 8 H problems (weekly homework due at 9pm, anywhere from 3-10 questions with multiple parts), 12 X problems/3 as videos (harder problems that can take up to an hour for just one), 3 P problems/all 3 as videos (hard problems from past exams), and 1 M problem/video (creating and solving a problem from media). Grading is based on a 0/.5/1 scale. It does not need to be accurate; it is graded on effort. With that said, TA's will give 0.5 for any work that is lame, perfunctory, late, or simply horribly wrong.

To get an A or A+, you must do extra work. This includes: extra M/P/X problems or extra videos, choosing to do the harder problems out of those given, participating in class, participating in discussion, participating in office hours, helping others in office hours, and taking the optional final exam. The optional final is really the best way to ensure an A+.

The lectures are based around easy to understand slides but, because they build on top of each other and have specific vocabulary, I highly recommend going to lecture. Lecture is also offered as a zoom, is recorded and posted, the slides are always posted, and years and years of past lectures are posted online.

Besides the weekly homework deadlines, there is one X problem due around Week 7. All problems are due Tuesday of finals week in order to receive feedback. All problems are ultimately due Friday of finals week.

The discussions are extremely helpful (I had TA Ryan H.) and they are very helpful for going over the homework and concepts. With that said, the Professor is also very helpful when it comes to homework and other problems both before and after class.

I took this class as my first Pol Sci class in the fall and was expecting a more political science based class but don't be fooled this is basically just game theory, Nash equilibriums, and problem sets. The content is not necessarily difficult but it is essentially conceptual math than can take a while to learn. The course is split up into hw and then the final exam/project. Basically if you do the hw every week it will be hard to fail but it is a lot of work at times(going to lecture is essential). overall Mr, Chwe was such a great instructor and really cares about the success of his students. The work that you put into the class truly reflects your grade.

I've never been in a class where how much effort you put in directly mirrors your grade, but this is one in which that's the case. Professor Chwe guarantees that you'll get at least an A- if you do all the homework assignments, the 12 end-of-year exam problems, three videos on those problems, three videos on past exam problems, and a video on a problem you make up yourself. You can get an A or A+ by impressing your TA and professor in some way, including doing extra problems or videos or producing very high-quality work. There's a final that you can distinguish yourself with, too, but it's optional. Only about an eighth of the class took it. Yep, that's just how this class is. This class is supposed to be the most "mathy" of the 10-60 political science courses, but it really doesn't require much beyond basic algebra skills and logic. Homework can occasionally be time-consuming but isn't ever conceptually challenging. Section attendance is tracked and goes into the professor discretion part of your grade, so you should go. Just know that absolutely nothing meaningful is done there. Even lectures seem pointless, and you can do those over Zoom or watch the recordings. Professor Chwe is a nice guy and helpful if you're having any problems with the content, but his lectures are boring and often skippable. If you're a poli sci major, this should absolutely be a lower-division class to target if you're seeking the path of least resistance to A's.

This class should just be renamed "Game Theory" because that is all it is. The concepts are all very self explanatory which makes it very easy to grasp. I appreciated that Professor Chwe values effort over being correct so I never felt too stressed doing the homework. He is also very helpful during office hours and will work out the problems with you. He asks if your class would like a final exam or project, so it is a very flexible class. Lectures are zoomed and recorded so it is a very low effort class. Highly recommend

I found this class to be very enjoyable. There are two big tests that determine your grade. The first one was difficult but the second one was pretty easy. If you go to class and watch the videos you will do well on the tests.

Easy yet slightly boring class to take. Professor Chew is as absolute sweetheart who takes student feedback into account and does his best to accommodate to individuals. There are no tests although there are many project to balance for the class during finals week which is doable when spread out.

Class was great, I definitely recommend taking it. Grades were based on homework, P problems, X problems, and an M problem. Almost every week there was a homework assignment based on the strategies and game theory we were learning in class. The homework could be a little difficult at times, but for the most part if you took notes or utilized the professor's slides and recordings, you will do well. P problems were us taking a flipgrid and walking through past Midterm and Final questions. We were originally required to do 3, but due to the TA strike he dropped that down to 1. There was no "real" midterm or final either. The professor had these things called "X Problems" that were essentially problems we had to turn in for a midterm and final-like grade, but we had them in advance and just needed to turn them in by the due-date. The grades we received were also mostly based on attempts over accuracy but professor Chwe was always willing to walk us through the problems so there really was no reason for you to struggle through it. I believe that COVID-previous years there were actually in-person midterms and finals, so just beware of that. There was also an M problem where we used what we learned in the course and applied it to a movie scene. Here you would record a flipgrid again and submit. Overall, I really enjoyed this class. Professor Chwe was so accommodating in regards to the strikes going on and even dropped the workload for us after expressing our concerns. He was also super helpful in office hours. I was initially nervous due to the aspect of math and strategy that I had never learned before, but the class turned out to be really interesting and I'm glad I took it. A great pre-requisite to take for Political Science!
