Senior seminar on the Brönte's. No, sadly, we did not read any of Branwell's poems, but we certainly gossiped about him. Jane Eyre was my favorite to read, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant didn't do it for me. The class is 3 novels and some secondary sources to engage with high-level literary criticism. You're asked to break down one of these articles in class as a presentation. It is a bit of work, but honestly, so will every senior seminar be. Stephan is a good helmsman for a class; the discussions about the gothic and colonialism in Jane Eyre were transcendent!
Ignore the 110T review, Professor Stephan is the best! My second class with her, she's shrewd, funny, thoughtful, interested in our writing, clear, kind, can't say enough good things about her. She's not going to let you fade into the background; she will challenge you, ask for your insight, and she expects a high level of engagement with the text and discussions. I think her pedagogy is also very dynamic; classes never felt long. She was also very accommodating and kind to me during a rough quarter.
