Professor Shay is probably my favorite professor and mentor from all of UCLA staff.

Not only does she want top notch education for her students, she also does so in a manner that is respectful and fluid so that she can mold her teaching methods to that of her students. She's not one of those professors that strictly teach to how they're used to teaching and in which their way of thinking is the only way to follow for at least the duration of the class.

She comes off as friendly, empathetic and approachable which is great in any professor. Furthermore, past that friendly personality is a professor that delves deep into the material, motivating any student to start thinking about bigger issues other than themselves. As a bonus, these thoughts stick with you and you find yourself thinking about them outside of class and your studies.

Great professor! She takes the dry part of an English class out and actually allows learning to happen naturally and enjoyably. I took her

By the way, I took her seminar course, Englis 181 in Fall 2014.
