Prof. Lieberman is a fantastic professor. He genuinely cares about the student and is passionate about the subject. The class itself is dense & hard; the exams are fair but not easy. I loved all the materials so it was fun and informative for me, but if you do not like philosophy/neuroscience then this class would be hell. I recommend going to all the lectures in person because Prof. Lieberman only does audio recording, and if you go into the recordings without actually taking the lectures in person before, I imagine it would be a pain in the butt. There's plenty of extra credit opportunities (I think up to 7% for our class), which are easy ways to boost up the grade. There's not a lot of homework/assignments to do except for a thought journal (which is just an easy grade booster), just go to the lectures and prepare well for the exams. I also highly recommend going to Prof. Lieberman's office hours. He is very patient and nice and willing to answer questions, and is also open to having discussions about class-related materials or gradschool in general. Overall I think I learned a lot from this class and really enjoyed it. Would take again.

This class, in my personal experience, is an absolutely terrible time for a few reasons. The worst part of this class for me was that there is no textbook, barely anything written on the slides, and he refuses to use BruinCast because he doesn't want to be recorded; instead uploads audio files from each lecture. An example of how frustrating this is is when you are listening to the audio and looking at the slide with an image of the brain and he says "this part of the brain is associated with this and this is associated with that" AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HE IS POINTING TO BECAUSE ITS NOT ON THE SLIDES AND YOU CAN'T SEE IT AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! like why, why why WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!! This makes it an absolute nightmare to study for exams. He offers lots of extra credit, which is good because the exams are fairly difficult. The content is overall very difficult to grasp conceptually, and I do not think he does a good job of explaining things. His method for attendance is also a bit crazy. While attendance is also extra credit, which is nice, he takes a video of the class, and you have to respond in a Google form saying where you sat in the class, and then he uses the video to cross-reference that you were actually there. Weirdly, a man who is so afraid of being recorded is okay with taking a video of the entire lecture hall every day. While I expect to end this quarter with an A because I did all the extra credit and studied by butt off for the midterm and final, I would get really frustrated while studying because there wasn't much to use other than listening to his lectures and using Mattgbt (which, yes he made his own ChatGPT) and sometimes what he says in lecture does not line up with the AI which makes me not trust it. Overall, I do not recommend taking this class unless you are super interested in consciousness because he did kind of start that field of study.

Honestly I thought this class was not bad at all in terms of difficulty. The course is composed of two exams each worth 40% (non-cumulative) and a final paper worth 20%. The paper is basically guaranteed full credit as long as you put in some effort.

As for the exams, when I left the first one I did not feel good about it at all but I ended up doing much better than I thought I did (37/40). I think a lot of this had to due with my lack of prep and studying (all I did was cram all the lectures up until the exam) but the reason I think I did well was because I attended all his lectures in-person. His lecturing style makes it easy to pay attention and stay engaged, so when I took the exam I was able to make pretty educated guesses and recall some of the things he said during lecture. As far as the second exam, my preparation was pretty much the same. I attended all the in-person lectures and tried my best to stay engaged (sitting in the front helps) then when it came to studying I just crammed listening to the lectures again to refresh my mind. I ended up getting a 39/40 but I also just believe he made the second exam way easier than the first.

Overall I actually really enjoyed the class and found the material interesting, it helps that he literally helped start the social cognitive neuroscience field so he knows his stuff and is very passionate about this course in particular. The best advice I can give is to attend in-person lectures, I am a pretty average student but still managed to do well in this class mainly because of my attendance.

This class was definitely a challenge and not an easy A. Professor Lieberman was very helpful and cared about his students, but the content was extremely dense. Lectures aren't mandatory and recorded, but if you're taking this class I would recommend you go to all of them, otherwise it is extremely easy to fall behind. Your grade is mostly the midterm & final, but there is an easy short paper worth 20%. The tests are very specific and tricky, if you don't know the concept in its entirety, then you won't know the question. There is no reading or really any outside work aside from the paper because the lecture information is so difficult. He also gave a few extra credit opportunities (including SONA) that can increase your grade around 3%. Overall, the class was interesting, but if you aren't passionate about the topics that are covered, it will not be easy.

Lieberman was a pretty good professor when it came to listening to students feedback. From what I gathered, his exams used to be extremely difficult but now if you have a good understanding of what he says in lecture, you'll do good on the exams. The only thing is is that he rambles a lot and seems to love the sound of his own voice so the concepts can seemed a little dragged out. Overall, this class was really interesting.

I think this is a great class with a lot of strengths but also a few weaknesses. First, Professor Lieberman is a great guy and really wants all of his students to succeed. After every class he sends out a feedback form so he can change his approach for following lectures or add more details to the slides if people need it. Workload for this class is non-existent, but you need to stay on top of your notes since your grade is based only on 2 exams and a paper (40% for each exam and 20% for the paper). But, he offers a lot of extra credit to help out with the high stakes exams (4.5% to your final grade for my quarter).

As for weaknesses, you will encounter some pretty tough concepts that are not always explained very well, and there tend to be some strange exam questions with odd wording that don't always perfectly align with what is taught in lecture. The content is also very philosophy heavy which can be challenging for those who haven't been around it, and exams require that you know of a LOT of different studies inside out.

Despite all of that, the class was great, Professor Lieberman leaves you with a lot of real-life advice based on his research, and I think I am better off having taken this class.
