All Ratings and Reviews for Matthew Drennan
Though I found the material in the course interesting, this professor was extremely ineffective in teaching it. I usually couldn't find any connection between the information in the text, the course reader (which was extremely thick), and the information in his lectures. We spent the first half of the quarter learning everything you would learn in intro to macroeconomics, instead of actual public policy issues. Our midterm was entirely on economics! His lectures were poorly structured and confusing. Though he seems like a nice person, I would be wary of taking this or any course with this professor.
You know there is a problem when even his department encourages you to drop the class. Professor Drennan, although well-meaning, is the most ineffective professor I have ever dealt with. He is a trained economist, and made our introductory public affairs course into an economics course...complete with formula sheets and problem sets. I contacted the department and was advised to drop the class and enroll in the next quarter with a different professor. Do not take this course unless you are prepared to refresh your mathamatical skills!
This was the worst class I've ever taken. While the professor was pretty easy, he taught us nothing. In fact, he didn't even seem to understand the material himself. He not only couldn't explain the subject matter, but he often made incorrect assertions. Plus, he was very boring. Stay away from his classes!
