The class itself, as well as the lectures, were pretty disorganized. I never understood the point of what we were learning, and there was no cohesion between the ideas taught in class, the readings, and the credited assignments. The professor was arguably even worse. His writing was disorganized and hard to understand; we consistently jumped from one thing to the next without any transitions, making it difficult to learn everything necessary for future assignments. The syllabus provided little to no guidance on what our assignments were supposed to look like, including the weekly readings and the midterm essay. As of Week 10, we still haven't gotten the grade on our midterm, making it so we don't know our grade going into the final. We also don't have any instructions for the final, taking away the opportunity to work on it ahead of time. Apparently, we are also supposed to take an oral exam scheduled with the professor outside of class, but this makes it difficult to make plans for spring break, as I don't know when the exam will take place. Worst of all, there was a day when the professor just never showed up to class, leaving students waiting for up to 40 minutes without so much as an email of notice. Overall, the professor's teaching methods are as disorganized as his assignments, and this was by far one of the worst courses I've taken in my time in college, including community college and UCLA.
Genuinely the worst. Johnson is insanely disorganized in every way possible. From his notes on the board to his grading he is nothing but disorganized. Turned in weekly Reading Summaries that were never graded. Papers were graded harshly with little explanation even in office hours. Got so off his own syllabus we had to do our final paper during spring break. Pretty sure he just gave out As to avoid an uproar and student complaints that would get him fired. While I went to every lecture, they were all a waste of time. He really needs to get slides so he can stay on track. Handwriting can use some work as well. Incredibly slow to grade. Very nit picky and rude in his comments. Speaks in a very condescending way especially when considering that the way he teaches leaves you unsure of if he even understands the material that he is paid to teach. I wouldn't reccomend him or any of his classes to ANYONE even senior philosophy students.
