Quarter: Summer 2018
Grade: I
Aug. 16, 2018

Writing this before grades have come out so no grading bias. The super long review from Summer 2016 is ABSOLUTELY on point. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE this man as a professor. For starters, he's NOT even from the CS department but from the MATH department. HUHHH??? So he doesn't even know that looking up in a hash table is O(1). My friend also got docked off 7 points on the midterm because he used a stack for DFS for traversing a graph and you know what this CLOWN told him? "When you're driving, you don't have a stack with you". What the FLYING F**K is that supposed to mean??? Ok so I guess you don't have a stack when you're showering, taking a S**T, working out, ... so much for real life applications of data structures ehh? But unfortunately this isn't the only time he showed himself as a HOLY TROLL. When a student asked about the format of the midterm, he replied "It's on paper you write the correct answer with a pencil." His dumb antics aside, he skipped through SO MANY SECTIONS of the book on fundamental algorithm paradigms (greedy, divide and conquer, dynamic programming), instead spending a week on Gale-Shapley, going off on tangents about the history of mathematics and Latin, or giving rigorous proofs that he never tests you about anyways. How can you call this class an intro to algorithms when you barely scratch the surface of basic (and very practical for tackling the likes of LeetCode questions) algorithmic paradigms? Homework specs were vague (even worse than Eggert's 35L specs which weren't that bad honestly); HW2 had an impossible question that the TAs didn't even know how to do and everyone scrambled to write whatever bullshit they can for the proof part. Midterm was a joke final was brutal though. To make matters worse, it takes him decades (or never) to respond to emails and it took him 6 weeks for him to give us back homework 1 (the class is 8 weeks long for summer session). Ok so I guess we're supposed to "learn" from the homeworks but you won't let us find out what we did wrong so I can mess up on huge portions on test questions forgetting to include whatever BULLS**T excuse you pull of your A** when I come ask you about random point deductions??? Taking CS180 during the summer is now one of my biggest regrets as I came out with minimal improvement on my algorithms skills even though I took a class that was supposed labeled "Intro to Algorithms". Please don't let his easiness reviews fool you I should have taken this with either Sarrafzadeh or Meka during the regular quarter. Oh and did I mention, the class is graded on a straight scale and he doesn't give out plusses and minueses. It's only through these kinds of horrific experiences that you come to cherish teachers like Smallberg and Eggert (yes even Eggert). UCLA: please stop hiring clowns from the local circus I think they're better at juggling oranges than teaching intellectual subjects like CS.

Oh and @the guy who wrote the review on Oct.25 2018 change your shirt dude rumor is you've been wearing it for the past 3 years without washing it
