Literally will never give you an A on anything you do unless it's praising her activism obsession in some way, shape, or form. But she's a good lecturer; she's pretty funny and interesting to listen to. Just don't expect to ever do well on anything.

Lopez is ok. She is passionate, and some of her lectures were interesting, but she tends to summarize and give historical backgrounds more than go into more specific parts and look at them more in depth

Lopez is honestly such a great professor. She is engaging, funny, and very hip. She can sometimes get pretty political in her lectures which bothers some people, but I think it's awesome because she really tries to relate course material to current events and make it relevant. Her lectures tend to be pretty heavy on the history behind pieces of literature, and instead of doing a lot of close reading in class she instead poses lots of big questions and ideas that students should think about regarding the texts.

Class is graded as so:

In class work - 5%
Section Grade - 15%
Essay 1 - 15%
Group Project - 20%
Essay 2 - 25%
Final - 20%

The group project generally bums people out when they see it on the syllabus, and I was definitely dreading having to do it. But it's actually pretty cool, it's basically just creating a database of a bunch of primary, secondary, etc etc sources on an author of your group's choice. Lopez also is very lenient with the grading and everyone does really well on the project--she mainly just makes the group project a thing because she wants students to learn how to use the library.

Overall, 10C was great and very well balanced in terms of assignments and grading. Would definitely recommend taking Lopez--she is fair, interesting, engaging, and just super cool.

This is an upper division writing class, something that was very difficult for me, a Chicano Studies major. When writing papers, I'm not used to focusing on the words or metaphors or writing on significant scenes. English papers are not my strength, but the readings for this class were interesting. There is an in class midterm and final and also a midterm paper and final paper. The tests are pretty straightforward, they're based on the readings and terms she focuses on in class. And for the papers, the students choose their own prompt. This is both good and bad because you're able to write about something you like, but you may get writer's block when coming up with an argumentative topic.

I took this class during the pandemic. All of Professor Lopez's lectures are prerecorded to watch at our own leisure, the only mandatory live lectures were the first and last lecture of the year. Her lectures were interesting and very dense to get through with how much information she gives, although not necessarily a bad thing. The grading is all based on a midterm paper, final paper, section participation, and final exam, all which are equally weighted at 25%. While the 3-4 page midterm and 6-8 page final were fine as enough time was given for both, the exam was tedious to get through in 4 days where you had to write 4 essays. However, the TAs seem to grade with the idea in mind that you didn't have much time anyway for full quality, my own exam ended up being 12 pages for reference and was doable. Overall, Professor Lopez is very approachable and passionate about what she teaches.

Lopez is one of the best teachers for English 10C. If you have the chance, you should take her. Her lectures are incredibly fun, made strong because of her strong personality. She is extremely easy to talk to, and would love if you would come to her office hours just to chat literature. No question is too dumb or too out there!
This how how our class was graded: (Keep in mind this was during COVID quarantine, so it may be different than future in person classes)

Paper One - 20%
Paper Two - 20%
Team Research Group Project - 20%
Final Exam - 20%
Section - 20 %

Don't be afraid of the group project! It's not that bad, you all work together to create a pretty interesting archive of an authors work. It is very unlike most English assignments. The workload for it is not terrible at all.

Overall, Lopez makes a class that could easily be dull something to look forward to!
