So, ngl: this guy sucks. I could understand his accent fine, but it's his English that sucks balls. I had him for BL and CL over summer and hated it. You'll want a good TA and to go to their office hours. I recommend: Kris Barr, Mark, Emma/Emily, Matt, Stephanie, Orin, Stephen.

His BL midterm was way easier than his CL one. For BL he doesn't ask you much about the labs themselves, but more about his notes and the math. There are some definitions and stuff. CL on the otherhand, you NEED to know the labs. He'll ask you random things about what chemical you used for which lab and why/what does it do.

He gives you "notes" that are full of typos, mistakes, and the exact same example in all of them. His office hours are useless. He doesn't know how to explain things and doesn't answer questions.

Also, he doesn't curve. He "NORMALIZES" your lab grade. The lab grade is worth more than your finals and midterms, but he'll drop your grade if you're doing above average and boost it if you're below. I went from getting an A to a flat out B because I had almost perfect scores in my lab. That kind of sucked.

If you can get ahold of labs, you'll be set.
Cram your cheat sheet front and back with a summary of your labs, basic steps, ect. His exam will be exceptions and tricky questions- not just basic things you've done. He might start in the middle of a titration and ask you something rather than what you've been doing at the start point. He might give you a triprotic instead of diprotic.

I worked hard in the class and got a B in both classes. CL was harder than BL in my opinion.
Take the class with Chang if you can.

Very kind professor. He's willing to throw you a bone in terms of turning in late work if you show him that you're not gonna fool around. He let me turn in the first prelab late b/c I was punctually retarded, he let my lab partner redo her prelab reports b/c she screwed up, and he let my friend redo a CPR submission b/c he was being dumb; all you gotta do is ask.

One of his weaknesses is his heavy accent. But his lecture handouts more than makes up for that b/c it contains all of his lecture material.

His exams are fair. You're allowed a cheat sheet (8.5" by 11" paper) for both the midterm and the final exams. The only constraint for the midterm is time: you get ~50min to do 4~5 problems. As for the final, you're allotted 3hrs, so you really don't have an excuse to not do well.

The only reason you would not get an A in this class is if you fool around too much (eg. abysmal lab reports, skipping lab, bombing the midterm, neglecting CPR, skipping your final, academic dishonesty, sloth, etc.)
