Math 151A as a course is probably one of the easiest courses I have taken at UCLA. With Professor Vese, it's even easier. This is during COVID and online style but even if this was in person, it would be really easy. The course consisted of weekly homework that were about 4 questions per problem set. HW consisted of 50% of the grade and one was dropped. The midterm was pretty easy and was essentially just homework questions with different numbers. The midterm consisted of 20% of our grade. The final was the easiest single exam I have ever taken at UCLA. It was a 10 question MCQ exam that only covered material from weeks about 5-7. The final consisted of 30% of our grade. As a lecturer, I found it a bit hard to follow Vese but she will explain whatever is necessary for the homework. She does a great job of not really getting side tracked. This being said, she also did not have lectures all the time. This course was practically half asynchronous and half recorded. The TA, Tierry Laurens, was super nice and explained things very well. The material itself is extremely computational and there is little theory in the course. My recommendation is to just skim the textbook and find the formulas you need and look at the example questions in the book. Overall, whether it be a major req, specialization in computing req, or anything else, I would HIGHLY take this course for a GPA boost.

Edit: Also, she graded the final 10 minutes after I turned it in and I got my final grade on myUCLA a day after the final so bless her soul for that

I would recommend this professor for 151A.

midterm was ok and the final was super easy and was multiple but show work.

It's so sad that in class of 80 people, only 7-8 people would show up for lectures because she's very knowledgeable and caring. She always wanna make sure you understand the material and the hw questions. Her office hours were really helpful and most of the time she would solve the hw problems for us.
The class is base on 35% of weekly hws (which would take some time), 25% midterm (similar to hw problems), 40% final (easiest test you can take in math department) .
Overall she's very helpful and her course is extremely easy. Take her at any cost.

I want to preface this review by saying that Prof. Vese was dealing with some health issues during the quarter and therefore relied largely on reading lecture notes from previous quarters, instead of writing down notes live while lecturing. As a result, the class pace was a little too fast at the beginning and students could not follow easily. Towards the end of the quarter, Professor Vese changed the lecture format to playing old recorded lectures and pausing occasionally to answer questions or elaborate on the steps, which was more helpful. The professor cared a lot about student learning and had office hours to clarify midterm questions. Prof. Vese is a very passionate and caring professor who is very knowledgeable in her field (she is one of the co-creators of the honors Numerical Analysis series starting this winter). Our TA Thierry was very good at explaining the concepts and working through concrete examples to demonstrate the techniques/ formulas (I always feel that I get a better grasp of the concepts after attending Thierry's discussions).

As long as you know how to do every problem in the homework and her practice midterms, you will get out with an easy A+. The easiest upper division class I have ever taken.
