Could be challenging, but the best class I’ve ever had.
I will definitely take more classes with him.

I took Communication 167 Free Speech on Campus with professor. Fink. He rarely lectures but lead the class in a Socratic dialogue. In other words, his class consists of numerous discussions about current issues that are related to course material instead of simply covering textbooks by going over power points. It could be challenging as I assume most of us are not used to having discussion classes; however, I highly recommend this class with three reasons below.
1. Professor is always there to help you. I would say the best part about this class is the professor. He is genuinely interested in students, cares about them, and tries his best to help them. In fact, not only is he available on email most of the time but also he comes to school early and stays after class just to make sure to answer individual’s questions and get to know them. He can help you giving you advice in terms of class materials as well as issues that are not necessarily related to the class.
2. There are two opportunities to raise up your grade throughout the course: extra credit assignments and participation grades. If you care about your grade, do all the extra credit assignments which are writing a one page paper about current issues that we cover in the class. Also, try to engage in discussions! On top of these opportunities, there are review sessions with TA before midterm and final. TA provides you a study guide and a list of key words that we need to know.
3. If you ever consider of sharpening your discussion skills, this is the class for you. Engaging in discussion could be difficult especially when there are a lot of students listening; however, not only does professor.Fink value diverse opinions but also he can help you by guiding you to an optimal conclusion.

I give professor Fink’s Communication 167 class a five star rating! Look forward seeing him next quarter.

Best class and professor I have ever had at UCLA. The course is so relevant to life on campus and he is always adamant about using cases that have been especially popular, both on and off campus. Fink's tests are super easy multiple choice questions

Overall Rating: Comm 167 class “two-thumbs up!”

Professor Fink is the “most dynamic Comm Law Professor @ UCLA” and I have taken all Comm major courses. Furthermore, you’ll learn about landmark cases and how to unpack the court ‘s decision through analysis. If you’re an undergrad considering law school, his classes are a must – so worth it!

Additionally, Professor Fink’s lectures draw connections between landmark cases and current hot topics, which also facilitates and engages some lively debates. The nice thing about his classes, if you do the readings for the cases and come to class prepared, you’ll do well!

Also, I learned to read case opinions both the majority and dissent, so that I could support an argument from both sides. He teaches Comm 167 using Socratic method - critical thinking skills, which is a helpful tool in life.

Professor Fink is a prominent LA attorney and author, an expert in employment and entertainment law, translated - you’re learning from a pro-!-!-!-

Another HUGE benefit, this class is NOT a sleeper lecture course, you’ll actually enjoy attending class!

Amazing professor! He is engaging, very knowledgeable, and the fact that he is an incredible lawyer in his own life is really cool. Fink is one of those professors that you will never forget. The tests are definitely tricky and there is a lot of reading but its really interesting material and as long as you go to class and pay attention you'll do well on the tests - plus they're curved to increase your grade. I ended up with an A+ in the class. Strongly recommend this for every undergraduate at UCLA especially if you are comm or considering law school

I usually only write evals for my professors and never any bruinwalk reviews, but professor Fink was truly one of my favorite professors, so I decided to write my first review about him to convince students to take his class. I’m a sociology major, but I took professor Fink for all 3 of his comm classes. Professor Fink is truly one of the best professors at UCLA. He is dedicated to student learning and he cares about every one of his students. He stays after class to answer every question that students have. Unlike other professors, Professor Fink teaches you about things that are part of everyday life and he prepares you for life after college, which very few professor do.

His courses are about different topics, but every single one of them is interesting and funny. His classes are 3 hours long, but he lets you out after about 2 hours, and he is a great speaker and very organized so you could easily follow along. His M172 and 167 courses are structured with a midterm and final, and his 164 class is only a short paper. Professor Fink uses the socreatic method, which many law schools use and this allows students to learn the materials in different points of view. The books used are also books that he authored, and they are actually quite interesting. The best part about his books is the discussion section where the questions he raises makes you think about what you read in multiple ways. Many students either do not show up to class, or simply not even open the book, but to pass this class you MUST attend class, and at least skim through the book. I attended every one of his classes in the three courses and I am so happy that I did because I learned so much, and I still remember almost every one of his hypo’s.

Professor Fink is one professor that you must take before graduating UCLA. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. his classes get full on first pass, so you must add him right away.

Professor Fink is one of the most dynamic instructors Comm. Studies has to offer. This is a great class if you're interested in going to law school and sample how the first year class would be run.

The professor assigns about 5 readings (about 25-50pgs each) per week that are landmark cases that prepare the class for the hypotheticals. The class is taught in the socratic method, in which he chooses a student from the audience and debates with them on a particular issue.

Most students tend to do well since they are serious about law school and usually are the ones asking questions and discussing the cases. The cases are tricky and the people who read them are debating with the professor and answering the hypos correctly.

Overall, I highly recommend this class to a person who wants to learn about the law from an actual professional in the field.
