Grade: A+

I took CCAS2O with Dr.Alma during the spring and it has honestly been my favorite class so far (1st year). As a Central American student, this class gave so much insight on knowledge that is not widely known by the common individual and that is definitely not taught in the typical American-history textbook. Truly it was such a good experience, engaging and really interesting. The midterm was an open-note quiz, and consisted of material during the lecture. So if you take notes, you will get a really good score and it was only like 10 questions. For the final you had the option to write an essay or create an infographic, I chose an infographic and it was honestly fun. Overall, the course was really easy imo and it was very engaging and interesting material. Dr.Alma is very kind, literally such a sweet person and you receive that vibe even just by listening in on lectures, even more when engaging or talking with her. 10/10

Because the course was online, I feel like we got off easy... But the 1st quiz was a nightmare; I don't know how people did but it was eternal and kind of hard. I think the professor maybe realized the 1st quiz was hard because the 2nd one was WAY easier, with only two questions instead of 20. There is A LOT of readings every week, most of them over 15 pages and really tedious. What saved me was the extra credit and the participation in discussion.
I don't know what I expected from this class. It was interesting learning about Central American history, but it was way harder than I had anticipated. Don't know if I would take it again, especially considering that I think this course will be a lot harder when it's in-person.

This was a super easy and interesting GE. There were no test or quizzes just two creative projects, a presentation and a short paper which she ended up cancelling. Alma is passionate about what she teaches and keeps class interesting. I would take another class from her and would recommend this class to anyone looking to fill a GE.

Took this class as a GE. Super easy class, no tests at all. We only really had three assignments the entire quarter, all involving a creative part and a really short written part. I had Kevin Kandamby as my TA, he was very kind, helpful, and lenient. Probably the easiest class at UCLA, and an interesting one at that. Would highly recommend!

Easiest GE ever! Highly recommend taking this class if you can. There are no tests/quizzes, all assignments are creative projects with small written portions. Andrea... hands-down best TA I have ever had! If you have her as your TA, you're lucky!

I really loved this class! I have never taken any classes that were about my OWN history before and it was great. She taught me more about my own culture's history than I would have learned in all my other history classes combined. She issues a lot of reading but it is interesting information. You can honestly just skim and get key quotes for the projects. NO TESTS. AT ALL. Just go to discussions and lectures and do the projects. She is also writing a book and she is so passionate about the subject.

Take this course. Insanely easy, I took notes and they were not even needed. But don’t interpret that as an insult — this course is fascinating and will make you double take much of US History. My TA, Nidia, was fantastic at engaging us and giving us a break from the heyday of UCLA life. Do not miss out on this wonderful class.
