Professor Rowe really loves what she teaches. The class can be somewhat redundant and boring with so many female writers that all have a similar voice. I attended lectures 3/4 of the time and sat on my laptop surfing the web. She is pretty boring but it is not a hard class to do well in. Reading a poem is really easy and her midterm and final were very fair. They were extremely long however which sucked but not that hard to do well on if you read. There was also one paper that was 40% of your grade. I did the creative writing option and got an A-. I didn't read any of the 3 books and I got an A- in the class. At the end of the class I felt like I learned a lot and ultimately I'm glad I took it. I don't know how I would have done in this class if I wasn't an english major though...

I took Milton with Professor Rowe over the summer, which was very hard because we smushed a great deal of literature into 6 weeks. However, I think Rowe handled this incredibly well, and communicated a great deal of information as clearly as possible over a short period of time. I appreciated her handouts, her detailed and thought-out lectures, her fantastic interpretations, and her sincerity and enthusiasm. Her exams are difficult, but not unreasonable, and her grading is totally fair. She pays detailed attention to paper submissions, and will put your paper through a typewriter, cover it with notes and suggestions, and hand it back with an A. She actually cares about teaching and helping her students to become better writers. If you haven't got it in you to give her class a lot of attention, then don't take her class. If, however, you are ready to throw yourself in, you will do well because she will help you do well. I recommend her highly, and have NO complaints about her teaching style, her class in general, or her grading system.

I am a transfer student who took her Eng151 Milton Class in Winter 2014 and received an A- in the class. I'll make this quick. Rowe's class was the hardest class I ever took. I went to every editing/revising session because otherwise I would've gotten a B or C. I pretty much wrote down every word she said because it WOULD be on the midterm/final. There were super long and tedious in class exams for both the midterm and final, as well as long take home essays. However she's an excellent teacher and you really do learn about Milton.
