Professor Esdin was extremely engaged with the class material. He was able to lecture on diet and exercise in a digestible way, while still maintaining student interests in mind. His coursework was not too difficult, as long as you are paying attention in lectures and reading the book, you'll feel prepared for all exams. His TAs were extremely well-informed and supportive. Furthermore, I had personal issues that made it difficult to focus on my classes. Dr.Esdin accommodated my needs and made sure I didn't fall behind. Overall, I recommend you take this class. Please know that you can depend on Dr.Esdin to provide you with quality teaching.

I absolutely loved this class! Initially, I had some doubts because I saw my friends, who had already completed the class, working on their lengthy class project. However, my concerns were quickly proven wrong because this class turned out to be a breeze. The professor's explanations were extremely clear, making it easy to grasp the subject matter.

The class structure was great, with only 5 discussion sections held every other week. Additionally, during 3 of those sections, we had a lab quiz, which was very easy. The TAs always provided guidance on the types of questions that would be asked, making it even simpler.

While the project was a bit tedious, it wasn't difficult at all. This quarter, both the midterm and final were conducted online, and they were surprisingly straightforward. Just reviewing all the lectures should be enough to excel in these exams. The professor was also super accommodating!

Attending all the lectures or watching the recordings was mandatory, so make sure not to miss any. Overall, I highly recommend this class!

100% recommend this course to anyone that wants to learn about the basics of diet and exercise or needs to fulfill the GE. I took this course because I heard great reviews from previous students and wanted to learn more about living a healthy lifestyle. I can say that the information that is taught in this course is extremely useful and I have changed my diet for the better.

Professor Esdin is also a great lecturer and very clear about the topics he goes over. The lectures are at a great pace and he posts all this materials onto canvas. The exams and quizzes are also very manageable if you pay attention in class and read through your notes. He is also very helpful during his office hours if you have any questions and he offers many insights beyond the scope of the course if you ask him about it. Amazing course overall.

Dr. Esdin is truly so genuine and sweet. I had a health issues this quarter and every time I would speak to him after lecture he would check up on me. If anyone has anything bad to say about him, I would not believe it!

His syllabus contains participation in lecture, participation in labs, 3 lab quizzes, 2 lecture quizzes, midterm exam, final project, and final exam. Overall, it is easy to accumulate points throughout the quarter. He also gave us about 8 points extra credit for evals and a survey he posted!

All exams and quizzes were administered online and are very fair! As long as you attend lectures regularly and read the course reader, you will get an A!

PhySci 5 is one of the most interesting courses I have taken at UCLA. Dr. Esdin is a wonderful professor who is respectful and cares about student learning. His lectures were engaging, clear, and very easy to follow. His office hours were extremely helpful as well in preparation for exams. He simplified the material so it's easier to understand and gives plenty of examples. Dr. Esdin is one of the best STEM professors teaching. He knows how to break down complicated physiological topics into small digestible chunks. Some of the topics we covered I still remember years later because of how impactful his teaching methods are.
The content is extremely interesting and relatable as it's about the diet we eat and how food impacts our health. This class covered a lot of useful topics about human physiology and nutrition, which is very useful as a pre-health student. As long as you pay attention during lecture and take good notes and keep up with the assignments, the class is very manageable. There is a final project that is time-consuming, so make sure you start early. This class was fun and I enjoyed studying for it. I definitely recommend you take him!

I recently had the pleasure of taking Dr. Esdin's physiology 5 course on diet and exercise, and I must say that it was one of the most engaging and enjoyable courses I have ever taken. The professor's teaching style was fantastic and made learning about this topic exciting. One of the most impressive things about Dr. Esdin's class was the relevance of the content. It wasn't just a theoretical discussion about diet and exercise, but was applicable to our daily lives. The class provided me with the knowledge I needed to make informed decisions about my diet and exercise routines, and I have made significant lifestyle changes because of it. Dr. Esdin's teaching style was dynamic, and he made sure that everyone in the class was engaged and actively learning. He would often use real-life examples and anecdotes to explain the topics, which made the material easy to understand and remember. Dr. Esdin is exceptionally approachable and always willing to answer questions. His enthusiasm for the subject matter was infectious and made me love learning about diet and exercise. The professor's passion for the topic was evident, and it made the class all the more enjoyable. Whenever I had a question or needed clarification, Dr. Esdin was available to provide insight and guidance. His openness and willingness to help made me feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help, which made the learning experience extremely fulfilling. I can confidently say that Dr. Esdin's class was one of the most rewarding courses I have ever taken. His teaching style, passion for the subject matter, and approachability made the class exciting and inspiring. I am grateful for the knowledge I gained and the impact it has had on my life. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in improving their overall health and well-being. Thanks to this class, I have learned how to make healthier lifestyle choices and am excited to continue implementing what I learned in my daily life.

I have mixed feelings about Professor Esdin. He is a good lecturer. His lectures are pretty engaging and I was genuinely interested in this subject. However, the course reader is unnecessarily expensive ($100), and you definitely need the course reader to pass this class. All his quizzes and tests were online the quarter I took this class, but some of them were pretty hard. Especially the lecture quizzes and lab quizzes. Lab quizzes cover the material your TA covers in class. But some TAs don't really cover everything. He does give you a lot of other opportunities to get points, though. I'd say if you are really really interested in the material, then take it. But don't just take it to satisfy a GE.

His questions can be confusing sometimes, with multiple correct answers and the most obscure technicalities.
