Extremely easy class, attendance is part of grade for lecture but I didn't go. Very fair midterm and final, not hard at all. Requires a little bit of studying thats it. Final project was kind of tedious if you procrastinate but very easy. 100% reccomend
First and foremost, this course revolves around lots of reading and memorization. There is an incredibly expensive course reader one must purchase in order to pass the class. In addition to a midterm and a final, there are two relatively easy quizzes, as well as a pretty in-depth lifestyle report. Esdin is a sweetheart and is incredibly passionate about teaching physci. His exams are tricky AF. My suggestion is to read each question carefully because the wording can throw you off. This is neither an easy course nor is it a difficult one.; it's in between. I found it very helpful to study with other students and to attend the PLF sessions. GOOD LUCK!
The course was alright. Lectures were interesting but not very easy to follow. I did learn a lot about my healthy lifestyle which is something I feel everyone should learn more about!

Professor Esdin is such a great professor. He always makes sure his students understand the material. His course reader is extremely useful, especially if you want to ace the class and it's also straight to the point. In addition, the course itself is interesting and in my experience, if you keep up with the reading you'll do well on the exam. In terms of assignments, there are quizzes for each chapter, a workbook you must complete and submit for credit at the end of the quarter, one midterm and one final, and a final project that's fairly simple if you don't procrastinate. Overall, the material you learn from this class applies to every day life and what you learn truly means something. I would definitely take this class again. (I'm selling the course reader with all the chapter readings-- there are slightly few highlighted portions marked but these are helpful when studying for the quizzes, midterm, and final--$15, if you'd like to purchase, email me at *************).
Text me for the course reader and class notes: (40$ only) **********
The class is pretty manageable. There are two quizzes, a project, lab activities, and two exams. Esdin was a great lecturer and I feel like the course overall was pretty straightforward. I took it over summer, so I guess we covered fewer chapters and the class was a bit more laid back. Take it with Esdin if you can.
Quite a bit of work, though it is a GE. Professor Esdin is extremely passionate about the material and lectures extremely well, though there's quite a bit of busy work and the exams are almost entirely memorization. Not a very fun class to study for.
The class was actually very interesting and relevant to daily life; lectures are very engaging, and lab sessions are often like health checkup sessions. The textbook is very helpful, although overpriced - all test questions come from the textbook so I would definitely recommend reading it thoroughly before the test! Only qualm I have is with the final report. I invested a lot of time and effort to ensure all my results and recommendations were accurate and genuine (many people use inaccurate data so as to write less for the recommendation section). I had my TA check my first draft and she glanced through it quickly, saying it was fine. When I received my final report, I was shocked to have gotten a B- for it while everybody else around me got an A, and this brought my final grade from an A to an A-. What happened was, firstly, I had printed one wrong page (I printed the Basic View of my nutritional levels instead of the Complete View, which was a matter of simple selection on the nutrition software), which was entirely my fault of course, but I thought my TA could have spotted it when I approached her with my first draft. This did not bother me that much, but what really bothered me was the fact that the 2 last pages of my final report was missing. I figured this must be my own human error, or possibly an accident where the pages fell off while being transported to and fro. As we had to submit both a physical and digital copy on CCLE, I emailed my TA to kindly refer to my digital copy for the last two pages, as I figured the digital copy was possibly to prevent mistakes like these. Unfortunately, she said she was not able to do so, and it was my personal responsibility to ensure my report was complete before its submission. Even though I raised the possibility of it being an accident where my pages got torn off. I raised this matter to Professor Esdin, who rejected my request as well. It just angered me that the digital copy we submitted was actually of no use of reference to the teaching staff at all, and really made me ponder over why we had to submit it in the first place (non-submission of the digital copy would result in an immediate 0 on the final paper, despite the physical copy being submitted). Would really advise those taking this class to really ensure that their final report is complete before submitting it, and note that the teaching staff would be reluctant to change your grades once they are final.
Easy GE that is very interesting! Workload is very manageable and grading is more than fair, as long as you do the work you will be fine. Grades are based on attendance, 3 open note lab quizzes, 2 open note lecture quizzes, midterm, project, and final. The course reader is essential for the midterm and final. If you can, get Nora as a TA, she is so chill! Selling the course reader (with highlighting) text me if interested **********.
Honestly, this class is really good if you're just interested in altering your lifestyle for the sake of your health. Although I didn't score an A, it's a good class to have to balance with other difficult courses you might be taking for your major. Most of the work for this class is really straightforward and easy (the project is super easy just a bit tedious, workbook is easy basically completion). You just need to follow the course reader to really learn the material. The only problem with this class is that the tests are kind of difficult, as he tends to focus on details that you might dismiss as irrelevant, so just pay close attention. I didn't score amazing on the midterm and the final (around average on both) and still managed to score a B+, but it was definitely a useful class. Even if you're not doing amazing, it really does teach you a lot that can actually be applied to your lifestyle and health.
