The way this GE Cluster is set up, we have lecture twice a week and discussion with TAs once a week. The lecture is taught by 4 different professors, Aberbach being one of them. Though we only had him lecture 2 or 3 times this quarter you can tell he is a very boring Professor. He looks like a sweet old man but we don't really get much interaction with the professors, so we don't know anything more. Aberbach teaches the political science aspect of this class and his lectures are based off of his slides which he basically repeats word by word. He usually presents data and analyzes each cell basically. It's somewhat of a boring lecture when Aberbach is present. What he teaches, though, is fairly interesting, Detroit Riots and Black Power Movement. Can't really tell if he's helpful, he just lectures, there's no office hours with him that I'm aware of. Most of the class is self-study, attending lecture, and having a great TA.

Make sure you like your TA and switch the second quarter if you don't.
I have the course reader for both Fall quarter and Winter Quarter for $20 each. They might be different, but most of the material will be the same. Email me (*************) if you're interested in buying them.

Aberbach is a nice enough guy, but he's probably the most boring lecturer ever. Very monotone and dull. His slides are also usually fairly irrelevant to what he's talking about, so if you want to look at the old lectures to study they're no help at all. The lectures are also so hard to pay attention too that you really don't learn anything either. I stopped going to the lectures that he gave because it really just wasn't worth the time to go. If you take this cluster you have to deal with him, but be warned that you're probably going to fall asleep in class if you even bother to go.

Definitely one of the most manageable clusters. There is a a lot of assigned reading in the beginning but you don't have to do all of it to do well in the class. But it definitely helps so try to do as much as you can. Like most clusters, they cover a lot of topics but don't really go much into depth on anything. You had to memorize songs and recognize them on the midterm but there's not too many and it's very manageable if you start studying more than a day or two in advance. Lectures can be fairly engaging depending on who's lecturing. Vavreck is the best but she lectures the least, Aberbach is really boring and doesn't use slides, Schwartz isn't very interesting either and her lectures are kind of scattered, and Decker kind of goes off on tangents. It's not a perfect class but the workload is very reasonable compared to other clusters and the topics can be really cool if you like politics and music. I would totally recommend it for science majors who want to get their non science GEs out of the way in a fairly relaxed class.
