Class is online. Material is pretty straightforward, but the lessons are pretty long, even with going 1.5x speed. Not as easy as I thought in terms of workload, but exams were not bad.

Just do all of the online required work (those points add up) and go to the discussion section and this class shouldn't be too bad. I wasn't that confident going into the exams but I still got an A. Also, I went to Lew's office hours before the final and he hinted at some questions that would be on the final

This was an interesting and easy enough science GE, but I think the class could have been so much more.

Lew introduces the main points but his lecturing style was fairly bland. I did not feel that he really tried to engage students by asking questions are telling us to come to office hours.

I think Professor Lew does do a good job at introducing basic concepts and that you will be interested learning in air pollution, especially since we live in LA> I thought Lew could have been a more interesting lecturer, but as a GE and introductory course, it was fine.

Took the hybrid A&O SCI 2 with professors Lew and Stutz and really enjoyed it! Lectures are recorded and uploaded onto the class website along with the slides and scripts, lecture exercises and homework assignments are also done online but graded manually. Everything graded will be displayed online so you can have a pretty clear view of your expected final grade. There are class meetings once a week but I believe half of the them are actually cancelled because everything is online already so they only use the lectures to make announcements and answer questions, which are also recorded and later uploaded available online. They also have online office hours which are kinda cool but I never took advantage of them. Ironically, the midterm and final have to be taken in class...

The class contents are actually really interesting but may be a bit challenging so make sure you watch all the videos posted and do the exercises. The midterm and final aren't gonna be too tough as long as you keep up with the homework assignments, study the slides, and rewatch the videos if necessary. The discussion was sort of irrelevant and the textbook listed for this course isn't going to be useful at all. Oh and the professors are very active and responsive – you should expect your emails to be answered within 3 hours with everything you need.

Definitely recommend!

This is my first bruinwalk review, but I really had to thank the TA Daniel because I missed his TA evaluation. Daniel was one of the most caring, concerned TAs I have ever had at UCLA. He really cares that you learn, and you should definitely take this guy if given the chance. He is super friendly and, most importantly, he knows his stuff very well.

Lew is an okay professor. Not the best, but not bad.

Professor Lew was fantastic.
You can review the lectures at home, his quizzes are open note and open neighbor, and he is a clear and concise speaker. Some of his policies may seem strict, but he is very understanding recognizes hard work. Midterms and finals are important to study for, but all of the material is outlined on downloadable class notes. His teaching mechanic is one of a kind, and worth checking out. Highly recommended.

This class is a joke. The first day of class, he even said he knew we were taking it because it was an easy GE. Just don't be an idiot when the midterm and final come around. The students that don't get A's are the ones that underestimate them. Study the lecture slides IN detail, and go to lecture so you can get the free extra credit, open neighbor quiz points. Don't sweat the quizzes (open note, open neighbor) they aren't worth your whole grade tho. So what, that's like a couple/few hours studying for midterms and finals, and actually going to class.. (why do you pay $$ to go here again?) Theres no homework, no reading- its the GE you're looking for. If you treat it somewhat like you would a regular class and it will be a breeze. And, hey, you actually might learn about air pollution.

His lectures are very organized, and having the powerpoints help, although I got more from the podcasts than actually going to class and listening to his lecture. He's pretty easy, if you pay attention to the lecture, since that's what the exams are based on. The fill-in will be easy, since 95% of those questions are from past quizzes - he does throw in a few that weren't. His MC is a little bit harder, because he'll throw in a few tricky questions - those were always the one that got me. He's not every available outside of class, even during office hours. As long as you don't underestimate the class, you'll get your A.
