Antell is a driven professor who really cares about the material. The lectures are engaging and easy to follow and the workload is very manageable. The one thing I will say is the tests can be somewhat difficult to get A's on because 2 questions wrong and its already an B+. I would definitely recommend this class for anyone interested in evolution and geography and Antell is a really good professor.
Just study what she tells you to study in the slides. I always crammed those and got good test grades. Make sure to study though, the tests are very detail oriented.
This was a fun class. However, the TAs were very strict about grading in weekly homework sets. You would lose random points because it seems unclear each time what they're expecting from your answer. There were 4 midterms, all of which were fairly difficult because the class average was 75% each time. I think it's because we were quizzed on niche facts glossed over in class. Lectures were mandatory with iClicker. There was a handful of extra credit opportunities to make up for missed attendance, and we even had a field trip to the Natural History Museum in LA that counted as a discussion session. TLDR: stressful class with hard exams and mandatory attendance.
