Lots of busy work. If you're here, you most likely have to take this class, so this is irrelevant. Pfuegal is kinda shitty: I had a severe medical event that landed me in the hospital, and he still penalized me for tardy work. But he sends you semi-weekly grade updates, which is great. Anyway. This class kinda sucks! But it's an easy A, you'll be fine.
Super easy class. I was a bit worried because I was taking it before 7C but it's no problem at all. Having previous knowledge from the 7 series is helpful but what you need to know will be reviewed in class and you really only need to know the basics. The assignments were a bit overwhelming at first because there were prelabs, postlabs, lab worksheets, Labster (online lab simulation), and writing assignments. But once you get used to it, the workload is pretty light (I would usually just finish all the work for the week in one day and not touch 23L for the rest of the week). There are 3 writing assignments (2 are half a lab report and the third is a full report) that are graded by your peers. It's not too hard if you reference the sample texts and follow the rubric. You have the option of doing a reflection at the end which will give you
a big 5 pt boost. Our final was pretty easy, 40 multiple choice questions based mainly on lab manual information. We also got to retake the final with our lab group and have that grade averaged with our individual one. Pfluegl is super nice and will send you personal emails updating you on your progress throughout the quarter. Overall, an easy A with some tedious work.
This class is essentially an A on a silver platter, but you're gonna despise nearly every moment of it. Labs are extremely easy, just follow the worksheet, but annoying if you don't like your group. The research paper was a nuisance to complete but not hard. Also I fell asleep during every single lecture so I can't comment on Pfleugl himself. Both the midterm and the final are pretty easy as long as you grasp basic concepts and go back to look through the slides to get certain questions right. LS 23L is just another requirement but not a difficult one at all.
Is anyone selling their lab manual 6th edition? Email me at *************
This class was super easy. I think it was one of the easiest lab classes I've taken because I had a super chill TA. Email me if you want to buy the lab manual "Introduction to Laboratory and Scientific Methodology" Edition 5 for $20! I used it while others were using the edition 6 lab manual. They're the same content, so don't worry about it being outdated. Email: *************
Easy A, but Pfluegl had been really mean to me. I tried asking him some questions outside the scope of this class (out of pure curiosity and interest in class materials); instead of providing me insights, he passive-aggressively judged my effort by nitpicking all the "incorrect" concepts I included in my email, completely ignoring my initial intentions.
If you have extra time, watch the "mandatory" videos. If not, you'd still be fine if you don't watch them. The workload was too much anyway.
I can't say anything about this class for in-person, but taking ls23l online during the pandemic was a breeze. Being online made this class by far the easiest ever. I swear there are so many buffers like bonus point opportunities and lowest grade drops that it's almost impossible not to get an A. I think my assigned group and I flew through the quarter not having learned a single thing from this class too haha.
The professor was great but this class in general feels like a huge waste of time. I'm was constantly confused about every assignment we had and thought this should've been a 0.5 unit class because I learned close to nothing about writing research papers. If it weren't a required class for my major, I would not take it at all. Besides being a time-consuming class, it was super easy to finish all the assignments and the final was easier than the weekly quizzes we had. Professor Pfluegel was great. Expect your peer graders for each paper to be terrible. The majority of the peer graders didn't even bother reading the prompt which were 1-3 sentences at most; so don't be mad if you get a 6/10 on a paper even though you completed everything on the rubric
Virtual lab and CPR writing can be tedious. It's a 3 unit class but it feels like a typical 5 unit class. Overall the class was fine. As you can see by the distribution, an A is doable. Prof's accent is sometimes hard to understand.
Something I HAVE to mention is the godawful CCLE layout. A million different tabs because there's a million different types of assignments. There's like 4 different due dates throughout the week. You'll get used to it after a couple weeks but holy moly.
