Liu is very easy as long as you get old exams. It's pretty much the same every year with little variation. Even without the old exams, all his tests are computational, no derivations, so it's straightforward. His lectures are straight out the book so I never went and just learned from the textbook. I ended up with a B in 32A and A in 32B

I really struggled in 31B, but this class was a lot easier. I did all of the homework and went to office hours for the ones I didn't understand and although this was really time consuming, it helped a lot. I really did not think his exams were that difficult, and they were really similar to previous exams in the test bank which was also really helpful! If you take advantage of your resources, you will do great!
His accent, however, is actually horrible. I did not go to many lectures after the first midterm because he just outlines the book and I couldn't understand a word he said. He really is a nice guy though.

Yeah Prof Liu has bad accent and it is hard to understand at the beginning, but it won't effect much since he writes important things on the board. His midterms and final is always harder than homework problems he assigns. For this winter quarter, the first midterm (avg 11.3/20) was way harder than those in previous years, but still reasonable. The second midterm was easier (avg 15.5/20) and similar to old ones. The final was such a bad ass and I only worked out 8 out of 12 problems, but still got an A for this class. Liu curves well.
Hint: don't be lazy; go to the test bank and get old exams! They will definitely help you prepare for your midterms. However, Liu won't give back finals, so good luck with that.
What I also recommend is to check your HW answers with other smart students and try to review with them.

This class is hard. 1st midterm median 11.3/20 . 2nd midterm median 15.5/20 . His in class examples are too easy for the homework and tests. Reading the textbook will help u more than the lectures will.

As an international student, I really love his way of teaching although he has really bad accent.
He really did a great job combining the concepts with the real problems together.

WORST professor of ALL time. Extremely hard to understand as everyone has said. I could ONLY understand his note by reading the book. He gave very simple examples in class while HW deal with much harder problem in which one could not do by just looking at his note & without a solution manual. Difficulties of midterms and final should not vary that much.

Hate this professor. My other math profs were so so so much better (at least I could understand what they were saying). Literally the worst professor I've had in my 3 years of college study. Maybe he's for you but definitely not me.

Yeah he's hard to understand at first, but once you get used to the accent it's not bad. He was my favorite math teacher I've had so far; he explained things clearly and reviewed previously taught concepts at the beginning of class, which kinda covered the important stuff. He writes a lot of what he's teaching on the board, so if you can't understand his accent or like to space out during his class like me, you can still get what's going on and going to class is worth it. Honestly though, easy class, you could teach yourself just fine from the book and by doing homework problems.

His accent is terrible. You may get used to it after a while but you will still unable to 100% understand what he is talking about. I got A's for both Calc 1 and 2 but I got C for this course. Nothing much to say, he is totally ridiculous. He may be a good mathematician but definitely not a good teacher.

Midterms are easy, but you MUST go to the review sessions. Final covers HW problems and example in book, but he did not talk about that in the review session for final, that's the reason I missed a lot of problems in final. So be sure to study the HW and some related examples in the book!!!

Maybe he did have a bad accent when he first started teaching. The accent is not too bad now, and people can understand almost every word he is saying. The first day may be a little tough getting used to his accent (such as saying vector as "wector"), but you will get used to it quickly. He really knows his materials, and he even holds review lectures before the two midterms and the final. As long as you attend his lectures, you will do fine on the midterms. The final can get tricky, but he warned us beforehand that the final will be hard. Watch out for the homework though. I slacked off and got a 20% and 40% on my first two sets of homework. Definitely a good idea to compare answers with classmates before turning in your homework. I think he is the best math professor out there right now, and I would definitely recommend him. Final Grade: A

Probably one of the best 32A professors to take. People talk about his accent but I could understand every word that he says. His midterms are SUPER easy; 18/20 median for both of my midterms. But as he says in the beginning of the quarter, his midterms are easy, but his finals are hard. YEP IT WAS HARD. well much harder compared to midterms. His midterms were all computational, and all you have to do is get his past midterm and its basically exactly the same. His final had 13 questions with about 10 computational and 3 proofs but since all the computational ones were doable, as long as you know the basics well, you'll do fine. I DEFINITELY recommend this professor. Also, go to his office hours for help. helps alot
