This class is heavily based on group work, so your experience and how well you do will depend greatly on the quality of your group members. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to choose a good group!! There are lengthy case write ups due every week, in addition to a 40-page project and presentation due at the end of the quarter. These assignments are all completed in groups, so make sure to work with people that can be held accountable for their share of the work. The midterm was heavily based on cases and the numerical calculations taught in class, so make sure to review those, in addition to some of the major key concepts that he lists on the review slides in the lecture before the midterm. Also make sure to participate and make your voice heard at least once during every class meeting, because the TA makes note of who contributes (they give out name tags) and participation is a decent part of your grade.

I’d recommend this class because I learned interesting and relevant skills (breakeven anaylsis, how to calculate customer LTV/CAC/churn, conjoint analysis) which are handy take-aways given that the majority of the 160 courses tend to focus heavily on frameworks and general information. With that being said, you will need to put in a decent amount of effort in order to get an A.

Professor Rostamian is great in that he is clearly invested in his teaching, and is at UCLA solely because of it. He is always available at his OH and actually wants students to attend (he'll tell you every lecture). He has a breadth of experience of business experience and is a really friendly/fairly funny guy. There's also a guest lecturer named Ali Kermani who was extremely entertaining.

Over the course of the quarter, he'll have you read various articles from Harvard Business and do case studies with your group (whom you'll also be developing a product with, to be presented at the end of the quarter). To this end, your group will probably make or break your grade, as so much of the assignments are group-based. Choose your group wisely.

There is a single midterm that is weighted heavily on the few numerical calculations he teaches in class. Study them and you'll probably do fine. Hard to get an A, easy to get a B.

This class is basically 160 over again. It is heavily based on cases and the midterm is almost impossible based on specific calculations that you must practice on your own. Rostamian is a great guy but his lectures are extremely dry so do your best to be engaged.

Truly one of the most shitty professors that I have ever had in my entire life...he gets mad at you for not understanding when he is not clear. For example, one of the case questions referenced a company that we did not mention in class and was not mentioned in ANY of the readings but somehow he expected us to know what it was. His lectures are all over the place with a ridiculous amount of information that is unconnected. He does not help guide you through any of the assignments. You are basically on your own for this whole class. 0/10. Honestly, I'd rather take an extra quarter to avoid him than ever take his class again. Save yourself.

Professor Rostamian is a really sweet guy. I enjoyed his lectures and he was always very helpful. He even gave us his phone number so we could call him anytime we needed help!
The class content was very interesting. You learn a lot from the lectures and the homework.
However, the workload is pretty sizable. We had weekly cases that could take forever. We also had mandatory readings each week. And we had a 40-page paper due at the end of the quarter. The cases and the paper are in groups so the workload is bearable if you’re in a good group with hardworking and accountable people. If you have to take up the work of (a) slacker(s), it very easily becomes a ridiculous amount of work. I was unfortunate enough to be put in this situation and it made this class very stressful and time consuming. So make sure you’re in a good group! We choose groups in the first class so I guess one can just hope for the best.
There was also a really long midterm (but no final). The midterm was mostly from the slides. The average was 60. I think he curved that pretty generously though. He just really wants everyone to do well.

Review is for Engr 160, which is the same class but focused for engineering majors.

Rostamian is a class act! He cares a lot about the students. Lectures can be a bit dry but he likes to incorporate current topics and sometimes he can get a good class discussion going. There's no individual work in this class. You form teams at the start and every other week you have to read a case (takes maybe 20-30 minutes) and answer the questions as a group. Midterm is pretty cut/dry memorization and he tells you what to study for. Towards the end of the quarter your group comes up with an idea for a product/business and you go through the stages of validating whether it's feasible or not. Overall this class was not bad! Only thing that sucks is that you have to purchase access to the readings which will run you around $70.

One of the best MGMT classes I had. He is super nice, and encourages everyone to participate. The only thing that bothered me was that everyone can just talk (no need to raise our hand) which was a little chaotic at times. He is very knowledgeable. The final was a bit brutal but I still managed to get an A. Just pay attention in lecture, and choose your group wisely. Your group work will determine a huge part of your grade. I would highly recommended taking a class with him.

Professor Rostamian seems like a good man and a competent business consultant, but he can improve significantly with his teaching. His notes are disorganized, his lectures are rushed, he tries to cram too much content in a short amount of time which gives students the burden of individually learning them at home, and he has high expectations from his students. Yet, he is a helpful and supportive man. He does not hold office hours separately but he does respond quickly to students' texts and provides ample support when asked. It would be better if he or the TA gave more consistent feedback throughout the course instead of surprising students with a low clump of grades mid-quarter for case assignments. He also does not record his 3-hour, speedy lectures and posts notes after class. The most stressful part of this class was group work, which affects a majority of your grade. Pick the right group mates because they are so important!!

Professor Rostamian is awesome! I loved taking his class this quarter. The lectures were once a week for three hours on Thursday nights, so sometimes it was pretty hard to stay engaged, but he did his best to give breaks at the top of each hour. There are case studies due every week with your team which I found really interesting and engaging. Additionally, there is a group project with a paper and presentation due at the end of the quarter. There is an exam given around Week 8. I thought all the assignments and the exam were manageable and fair. Make sure you get a good team and hold each other accountable for parts of the work and it should be fine. The professor is extremely nice and has a lot of knowledge about this field. I enjoyed the class overall.
