An actual racist— called corona virus “wuhan virus” and proceeded to deflect everything. Claimed that his wife is Chinese so he couldn’t be racist. Fire him. Now.

The actual course material isn't that difficult, but Gafni's lectures can be pretty hard to follow. It's easier to just watch discussions to get the gist of things, but Gafni will remember your name if you participate in class (even if it's only once), and that can really help you out when it comes to grading (and for getting letters of rec). Lectures are a bit stressful bc you never know when he'll call on you to answer a question, but if you don't know/understand he goes out of his way to explain it again until you get it. Homework assignments are due once a week, and they're time consuming but doable, especially considering the fact that he lets you work in a group with up to 2 other people. His tests are pretty hard, I was feeling pretty confident until the midterm (I got a 22%), and I was considering dropping the class at that point but I made an appointment for office hours with him and he really helped me out a lot, and I did a lot better on the final thanks to his help and passed with a better grade than I expected. Overall, while his teaching style may not be the best, you can tell that he actually cares about your learning and understanding of the material, which was nice to see (especially in CS).

* COVID-19 Quarter Review*

Sometimes people give salty reviews because of 1 bad midterm or final, but with Gafni the entire experience has just been sad.

His lecture style is confusing to say the least, you often can't pickup main points because he circles around for 5 minutes before saying something relevant. He also loves asking questions to students, but no normal human should be capable of answering them unless they've read the book / studied the algorithm beforehand. For example, before teaching say max flow, he'll just ask if anyone knows how to compute max flow. And he'll wait until he gets a response or berate the class if no one is willing lol

Homework is mostly available online so not bad, but exams are SO poorly worded that you are really at the professor's mercy. Average was in the 60s even with generous partial credit.

Highly DO NOT recommend, avoid if you can. Probably any other lecturer in the CS department would do a better job.
