Professor Young was very nice and it was a very interesting class. He does talk a lot and goes way more in-depth than what you need to know; however, This class did not require a lot of time. You get homework once a week that you can sometimes finish during the class. I only studied for this class right before midterms and finals. The midterm was easier (got a 95) while the final was more difficult (got an 88). I am mad about not getting an A, but what can you do. Overall, I would say this class is easier but on a UCLA level. I still went to every lecture, took notes, and studied a lot for the tests.
This class was a mess for me. If you're a North Campus major trying to fill a GE THIS CLASS WILL NOT DO IT FOR YOU. The people who seemed to do well in the class were all stem majors- most with backgrounds in this stuff. I have never gotten a B before taking this class and desperately wish I switched it to pass/no pass. I went to every lecture and tried to take good notes but most of his slides were just pictures of space and he rambled on about physics- which btw he talks about a lot of math during lecture but none of it is on the final. I wish he was more concise and his slides were better.
Easiest class ever. Weekly 5 question quizzes, midterm, and final all online. Lecture attendance not mandatory and not really necessary. Section attendance was mandatory but we just did a weekly worksheet that was graded on completion not accuracy. Once you finished the worksheet our TA let us go so we didn't even have to stay the whole 50 minutes. Strongly recommend this science GE!
The easiest class at UCLA. impossible to not get an A. Take it if you can!!! Lecture is optional and discussion sometimes I missed I just emailed my TA for the worksheets (they take like 15 min). Quizzes super easy as well as midterm and final. The best prof and class ever!
This is probably one of the easiest science classes you can take. It’s very laid-back, and Professor Young is an engaging lecturer who clearly loves the material. Although he uses slides, many of them are image-based, so you’ll need to pay close attention to what he says to take effective notes. Lectures aren’t recorded, but he does offer a Zoom option. There’s no homework, and the grading is mostly based on short weekly quizzes with about 5 - 6 multiple-choice questions, along with discussion labs that are graded primarily on completion rather than accuracy. Overall, it’s a super chill class with a very light workload and an easy A.
I consider this class an easy A :). All the tests, quizzes, midterm/final were ONLINE!, at least for me. The TA's said that could change sometime, so watch out for that. There are participation-based discussions I recommend going to or else it'll affect your grade, but they're are fairly easy and don't really depend on the lectures. The lectures are not recorded and are emphasized a lot on the tests and it's based off of slides that don't have much explanations so lectures are important to attend. Content is pretty easy to get a grasp of and ace tests. I highly recommend taking this class with Professor Young!
super interesting class!! professor young is very passionate and his lectures are very engaging. i learned a lot of cool things and i'm so glad i took this class. discussions are mandatory, but they're super easy and u usually finish early. also weekly quizzes; easy if ur listening during lectures. the midterm and final are both mcq online.
This GE is amazing I highly recommend! Weekly quizzes, midterm, and final are all online and super easy. Discussion is mandatory but also super easy the TAs are really helpful. The class is pretty interesting and has to be hands down the easiest science (or general) GE at UCLA it’s impossible to not get an A tbh
Prof. Young was very passionate about his career, you can tell he really enjoys what he does. The workload is very light, as a humanities major, I would totally recommend. There is a weekly quiz that is online and the discussion is attendance based.
As a humanities major, I took this class as a GE to fulfill physical sciences, and it was great. The homework is very light, just a weekly quiz online. The midterm and final exams are online and multiple-choice. Would highly recommend!
