Surro basically went over slides that he created for each class. I felt that the examples he used on his notes were very easy in comparison to the problem sets and exams. The exams are super long for the set duration of time. I recommend to find a great TA. Definitely try to understand and how to do the problem sets. I would have done better in the course if I sacrificed the sufficient time necessary.
Professor Surro is the best professor to take a core Economics class with! He genuinely cares about learning and tries to show students how theoretical economics concept apply to the real world. He also gives out a lot of extra credit and it always willing to help. While most Economics class grades are based solely on exams, Surro encourages and awards participation, attendance and an effort to learn. He is also very open to feedback and does his level best to improve and help his students. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to get into one of his classes.

Surro is hands down a solid professor. He explains the concepts of economics so well and genuinely makes it easier to understand. That being said, DO NOT underestimate how hard the exams are. He makes them challenging, but they are definitely manageable if you study and utilize all of the quizzes and other practice problems he assigns.
He is very fair with grading and gives you multiple opportunities to not have the exams totally destroy you. I didn't do great on the midterm, but that was my fault, and I got my crap together to do better on the final. Make sure you know all the formulas and understand the math behind the questions he's asking—it'll make the midterm much more manageable.
Highly recommend this class. Chris is an excellent professor who is genuinely passionate about teaching. All his assignments were very reasonable and clear, and he's really helpful during office horus too. This is an essay-based rather than exams-based class which is a nice change from the Econ prereqs. I wish he taught more electives, I would take every Econ class with Chris if I could!
I think that Chris did a decent job teaching Econ 2. Granted, it was online and set over 6 weeks rather than 10 which made the class fast-paced and boring. I feel that Chris didn't have enough time to go over each topic to its full extent because of how rushed the class was. His lectures were very boring, but watching on 1.5x speed made it go by a little faster. A lot of the class was confused on many topics, but Chris would provide problems he would go over after every lecture which covered the topics he taught in the associated lecture video. Chris' exams were not easy, the class average was 69% for the midterm and around 75% on the final. He does provide extra credit quizzes (which really don't add much, maybe a percent or two), as well as a discussion post assignment and data report assignment that were basically easy points to boost your grade. Exams were open note, but Chris made them difficult in that they were almost all application problems rather than definition type problems.
TAKE HIM. The best econ prof ive taken (apart from Olivia Osei, of course).
So good with the extra credit and the assignments are super cool and engaging! I actually learnt something about the world in this class which is not common for Econ courses.
*taken during covid; online course*
Surro was very helpful. He held multiple office hours and used Campuswire to answer questions. Good communication.
His exams were fair, but since the course was online, he made them application based rather some based on definitions (his words). No doubt if this class was in person it would’ve been easier to ace the exams. I didn’t do so hot on the midterm - average was C - but I got it together for the final. I did have to dedicate a lot of time to the class. I found it helpful to create a master study guide - handwrite them with different colors, it helps a lot!
Grade breakdown included: discussion posts, project, midterm, final. There was also extra credit.
Lectures drag on. After the first week, we were getting about 2++ hours of lecture time (including "homework" problems after lectures) on T and R. Look, there isn't any homework in this class, but if you want to know how to take Surro's tests you gotta do them. The midterm was tough. People generally did better in the final. You're gonna see other people saying that Surro grills us on application-type problems, but he did that just to prevent any sort of cheating. Generally, know the math and know how S&D graphs work and shift. — it gets more interesting when you look at LR and SR shifts. Surro says you don't have to read the textbook bc he tests on the stuff in his lecture. I found myself taking more notes from the textbook than his lectures, expect for like one chapter. I feel like either way works.
Professor Surro is one of the department's best professors for sure! I'd take any courses taught by him as he makes even the driest topics interesting. He is a bit tough on essays, but reasonable. This was a great class, from the structure to the grading to the material itself.
Every econ major should take this class. Whether you strongly oppose Capitalism or strongly support it, Chris will make you second guess your opinion. This is my 3rd time taking Chris and I'd take whatever class he teaches. Also, the majority of the class is writing based, which is refreshing for an econ class. Take him!
