Brenda is such a great teacher! She gives really helpful feedback and the class is very doable. We have a contract grading system, so essentially if you fulfill all the requirements (go to OH before essay is due, write x pages, turn it in on time), you’re guaranteed an A on the essay. We had two essays, one 4-5 pages, and one 8-9 pages (could be expansion of the first one). We did a unit on fiction, one on poetry, and one on film. Participation also matters, but you get two excused absences. This is a great class to fulfill your writing 2 requirement so definitely take it with Brenda if you get the chance to!

Overall, a really enjoyable class! Probably not the easiest as a writing II option or if you're not interested in media/English/literature, but not difficult at all. The class was centered around weekly pieces and discussion on their themes. Pieces varied, one week we played a game and another we read articles; some texts could be dense, but as long as you got the ideas and could participate in discussion it was fine. The main assignments were 2 essays: the first was an analysis on a piece from class, and the second was a research paper where we were also given the option to re-write our first essays. The final project was basically anything you wanted as long as it related to the class theme; some people did drawings, short stories, podcasts, etc. Brenda herself was an awesome instructor and I highly recommend her; her feedback on my essays was always insightful and constructive. She was also extremely lenient with extensions and very knowledgable during office hours! I would take this class again if I could.
