Dr. Goff is my favorite professor at UCLA. She is very warm, kind, and a very engaging professor. I took 2 of her classes at my time at UCLA as a transfer student. She talks a lot about her personal experiences in this class and I enjoyed every moment of it. Her tests are fair and the material is something I will take with me for the rest of my life! Thank you Dr. Goff ^^
I would HIGHLY recommend taking this class to anyone who wants an easy upper div and/or is even remotely interested in learning about what it's like to be a parent. The grading is: 3 exams, each non-cumulative, each worth 20% of your grade AND 4 short written assignments, worth a total of 40% of your grade. Exams are all multiple choice. However the exams are not necessarily common sense and you definitely have to go to lecture, take notes, and study a decent amount in order to do well on them. Professor Goff records the audio of lectures but doesn't bruin cast them. She shows a lot of videos in class, so I'd recommend going to class as much as possible because it can be tricky to hear the videos over just the audio recording. Further, basically every video she shows in class ends up having a couple exam questions devoted to it, so pay attention and take good notes on each video. ESPECIALLY the video documentary she plays during week 10! She is also offering an extra credit assignment this quarter. Professor Goff is a great and engaging lecturer who gives personal anecdotes from her childhood as well as her experience being a parent. Lectures are never boring and I feel like I've gained a lot of valuable information about what one should know/consider before choosing to become a parent. Overall, this is a great, fun, and easy/low workload class to take, and I would highly recommend it!
This class was probably my favorite elective course taken at UCLA. Not only is the subject itself interesting, but professor Goff is the type of person who genuinely is excited and passionate about teaching. She is extremely receptive to the class, and wants everyone to feel comfortable sharing even among touchy subject matter such as childhood trauma. The exams & homework were very fair, so long as you study and/or have a good understanding of concepts. Workload was nothing unmanageable.
BEST CLASS. BEST TEACHER. The course is SO astoundingly interesting and surprisingly so easy. Like I was literally stunned by the amount of crazy (but awesome) info we learned. Also Goff is a QUEEN I love her. She is so kind, so funny, and such an amazing teacher. I ABSOLUTELY recommend taking this class WITH GOFF!
You should definitely take this class with Dr.Goff, this is easily one of my favorite classes at UCLA. The way everything is structured is great ! Your class may be different if taken during fall quarter as I took it in the summer. The breakdown for the summer class was 3 Written Exercises which have a specified prompt for the assignment related to the content of the class, we watch several films questions are asked in the exam, 2 exams, extra credit SONA. I would definitely take again, great class for upper division psychology elective.
Professor Goff was clear about her lecture contents, and the slides were helpful. However, some of the exam questions were tricky (even though the professor may not intend so). Students in this class were insanely competitive, but overall, it was manageable to get an A!
