Professor
Alexander Sherstov
Most Helpful Review
Spring 2025 - I really enjoyed this class, I have a bad habit of skipping classes especially when I don't connect with the way professors teach but I basically went to every class except when I was forced to miss a class. I though Prof. Sherstov is a very engaging lecturer, and I enjoyed how he would always clarify terms when encountered again for a new topic rather than just defining them at the start and then never reminding us what they meant. That detail made learning super super easy to follow and I genuinely enjoyed the material even though I had a fear of algorithms after a bad experience with CS 180. I also thought Prof. Sherstov's little tangents and stories helped me focus a lot since they were like funny mental breaks connecting to real life, and I had an easy time not drifting off in lecture. The textbook was pretty helpful as well; Sherstov's lectures followed the textbook closely but better, so the combo of the two was very useful. I wish I got to take more classes with Prof. Sherstov but his class was definitely a highlight of my last quarter! I'm glad I got to take a class I enjoyed as one of my last classes at UCLA.
