Quarter: Spring 2020
Grade: A

I usually never write reviews on Bruinwalk, but I am making an exception for Adam. Sometimes you have to take take reviews with a grain of salt because usually they can be at faily opposite ends of the spectrum. I wholeheartedly mean this when I write that Adam is a PHENOMENAL TA. I have had him for two quarters of the 60s cluster but my time in his class has been both enriching and engaging. He truly cares about the topics he is discussing when it come to important political trends, social dynamics, historical pieces, and situating course themes in a modern analysis. Discussions can often feel like a weird place to talk about your viewpoints but Adam always made the discussions relaxed and meaningful. There are always conversations going in his class (unlike other discussions where it could be just silence). Also during the COVID-19 and recently the George Floyd protests he has been extremely concerned for our student needs and has made changes to accommodate students accordingly while also having relevant discussions about the issues that our society currently faces. I don't know what else to say other than the fact that he is fantastic, cares about students, makes topics engaging, and generally has a passion for teaching students about social issues. He has made my UCLA experience thus far one that is academically engaging and enjoyable. He's the best!!!

Quarter: Spring 2023
Grade: A-

Overall, Adam was a good TA. His lectures were concise, helpful, and always incredibly engaging. However, as somebody who hadn't been in Adam's class before, I felt that he showed favoritism to those who he TA'd for in the previous two quarters and, as a result, made it more difficult to reach out for help and guidance throughout the quarter. He also places a heavy emphasis on participation, so if you are not actively engaging with him in office hours, during seminar, or otherwise it makes it more challenging to get an A. In terms of the grading, it was manageable and honestly very easy. We had weekly discussion posts, 1 reacting to a given article/section and 1 that responded to somebody else's post; each was 100 words and not difficult at all. We had 1 paper due throughout the quarter but it all had to do with a content analysis project analyzing media sources and their coverage of different protests/protest groups. The paper was 10-12 pages and the project itself was time-consuming but doable. It was a bit tricky to get started because the directions were very open-ended and not explicit in many respects, but it went well at the end and overall it was a very fun quarter.

Quarter: Spring 2019
Grade: A

Adam is the best TA bar none. Honestly I have learned more in his class than I have from most professors at UCLA. His class is very interesting and engaging and you really become as passionate as he is about the material you work through. It is obvious how much he cares about his students and he does everything to try and make class as enjoyable as possible. If you are here wondering which section to take, TAKE ADAM!!! He is also very willing to meet for office hours and is such a huge help with papers and assignments for his class in the spring. Overall, I had the most enjoyable discussion experience in his section. 10/10 recommend.

THE BEST TA AT UCLA! This course has opened my eyes to so much about the society we live in. Each week the topics explored were presented in an engaging manner which promoted alternative perspectives and class discussions. Most time when I think class discussion I think of weird forced conversations with awkward silence. It couldn't have been more opposite, the class conversation was filled with depth and the class really wanted to talk about the topic we were presenting. Adam did an impeccable job guiding the conversation and making it as valuable as possible. Throughout the course, the homework assigned was always reasonable and was more focused on creating a meaningful in-class discussion rather than just assigning work. Adam was always available to look over writing projects and give you meaningful feedback. He understood the pressures we were under as undergrads and made the class feel heard and appreciated. I was extremely lucky to have Adam for all three-quarters of the cluster and I couldn't be more grateful. He truly has changed the way I see the world, our country, and politics, and next year won't be the same without being in his class once a week.

I took this class over covid in my first year at UCLA, and it was hands-down the best experience I have had here. Adam was my TA fall/winter quarter, and he was always ready to answer questions and knew his stuff. While he grades pretty strictly, I found this helpful with my transition into writing as a college student. I learned so much, and the class was so interesting 10/10 would recommend it.
